Guest guest
Dr. is so right about the pitiful quality of written reports (US & MRI) by many facilities and that a good GYN should review the films or review them with a radiologist. If they don't, they definitely aren't getting the information they need as it seems to be rarely in the written report! My IR usually uses a facility near his office, but since I live much further south, agreed to let me go to one of their " companion " offices. Well, they are " companion " offices in regards to billing, but not technology. The pre-MRI that he viewed on my initial consult was decribed as " adequate " (actually, as I remember, he called it C+ and stated he demands A+ quality, but felt it was sufficient for him to see what he needed to see). He pointed out how different areas on the film should have looked as well as the various fibroids when we reviewed the films. The written report was poor in quality and contained demographic errors. He actually had them do a revised report for me (which, in my opinion, was still vague and did not adequately describe all the fibroids). It seems like most just write the report as if diagnosing that there are fibroids and not worrying about the number and location other than just the few most prominent ones. Why is this??? The post UAE follow up MRI was done at his normal facility and the techs were obviously very familiar with his requested " procedure " for the MRI and his high standards. The process was totally different (face up rather than face down, and using a respiration " arrestor " across the abdomen to reduce interference from breathing). The techs indicated that they know that if they don't get it right, they will be repeating it. Even at this facility, I found the written report was minimalistic in nature. Why is that so common? Is it because they know the IR will be looking at it himself and it is just a brief overview for the records? My GYN didn't want to even look at the films because she had NO training in looking at MRIs. I would think that a GYN should get at least some training in reviewing various imaging films...not to the level of a radiologist, but some! Makes me wonder about the US performed at her office? Dr. , do GYN's get training in looking at these, or do they have to take the initiative to work with a radiologist to get familiar enough to gain something by looking at the films themselves along with the report from the radiologist? Sigh...getting good healthcare is not only expensive, but difficult to find. It is often like running through a field of land minds. It worries me when there are so many people (like my parents) that take their doctor's word as absolute gospel. Sorry for the rant...just found this was one of my main frustrations in getting my UAE. I really wanted to discuss it with my GYN as well as my IR. JB
