Guest guest
I have read that if your child doesn't need the p5p version, that hyperactivity will be the result. Perhaps you should try B6 w/out p5p. sb Re: [ ] not sure what to make of it? B6 on 7/21/04 1:36 PM, sczms at sczms@... wrote: > I decided to give b6 (p5p) version a try. Guest guest
B6 is innvolved in many pathways...including the sulfation pathway. Chances are some things are pushed the right way and some the wrong way. Based on observing external symptoms only it would be difficult to conclude if there was more good than bad happening. Dr. Rimland's and other studies suggest that P5P is helpful. We had tried DMG, years ago, and gave up because we saw some things we were concerned about (e.g., hyperactiivty). In light of recent methylB12 work, I wonder if we did not quit too soon. Imagine what would happen if you placed a young child in the driver's seat of a powerful sports car. You are not going to get racecar performance, but rather a lot of chaotic and dangerous results. Maybe when we try some if these things and we see unusual results, its at least partly a matter of learning to use new capabilities rather than going the wrong way. > > > I decided to give b6 (p5p) version a try. In the am very implusive, hyper but at the same I've started my 50lb son on 10mg B6 with oral calcium (800mg) & magnesium (400mg) plus epsom salt baths at night. He was already on the cal/mag as his diet has no calcium sources. Yes this is a very low dosage for B6 but I am seeing results. He is markedly more verbal. A few days ago for the first time EVER he followed a 2-step command, and in the last few weeks has begun using a couple of words spontaneously; prior to this he was only repeating words with prompts. And for the first time in almost 3 years, he is sleeping at night without the use of medication. He is up much later now but we are working on that with behavioral type interventions, namely waking him earlier in the morning - he wants to be up till 3 & sleep till noon; I'm trying to wake him by 8 or 9 - and also by simply moving back the time I give him the vitamins. I've also started him on a probiotic & we are already seeing results from that. I would suggest starting at a much lower dose and building up. This will make negative effects easier to manage as you figure out what is causing what. -Sara.
