I was told by the police officer, that now they have a can of spray

mace available that is the same strenght as what the police use.

That it would be a good idea to have it with me when I walk

every morning ,with my friend ,and to keep it handy by the

front door too.

Good advice on both counts, but a clarification for you. What you

want is something called Capascin Pepper Spray. It comes in various

percentage strengths depending on where you live. If you can get

it, you want at least a 10 percent formulation. Nevada does not

require either a license or permit for it (California, at least at

one time, did). Trust me on this one. I have a lot more years and

experience under my belt living with a self-defense/survivalist mind-

set than I have as a bodyworker/healer. My mind-set today may be

different than what it used to be - but I haven't forgotten

everything that I spent 30 years learning.

The brand I personally use and recommend is ASP. You would probably

have to get it at either a gun store or police supply place. The

thing I like about it is that it looks like one of the two AA Mini-

Mag flashlights and you can clip it right to your keyring. In other

words, you can easily have it with you and it doesn't look

intimidating or raise a lot of questions you don't feel like

answering.

" Mace " is a form of CS tear gas and no where near as effective as

pepper spray. It also will not stop an attacking dog because dogs

don't have tear ducts. Tear gas also has a horrible reputation for

being ineffective against someone high on drugs. Pepper spray works

by basically shutting someone's eyes from the burning sensation. It

is NOT pleasant to get sprayed. But it is also not something that

is going to cause any permanent damage to someone. To my knowledge

(and I tend to stay current on this) there have only been 2-3 cases,

ever, where there has been some kind of long-term reaction.
