Bracing time with a walker/older child

As some may remember - Darbi has been walking for about 2 mo's now. She's

12.5mo's old. About the time she started walking I dropped her time in the

DBB to 12 hours. Dr. Sussman had told me at her last appointment in Sept.

that she could just wear them while sleeping. Well he'd told me before

that I didn't need to have her in them 18, 16 and then 14 hours but I

pretty much kept with the protocol Dr. Ponseti prescribes because it seemed

to make sense and couldn't hurt. Every time I told her Dr. she was in them

longer than he'd told us he always said she didn't need to. For whatever

it's worth, her foot has always been considered mild and very corrected and

supple.

So when she started walking I didn't think it was fair to make her crawl

around for an extra 2-3 hours every morning and dropped her to about 12

hours from 14. I try to get 12 in every day - sometimes though she wakes

at 7am which leaves her with an hour to crawl around with the DBB on to get

to the 12. Dr. Sussman keeps telling me she just has to wear them whenever

she sleeps. So occasionally I let her out at around the 11 hour mark. Not

often - but sometimes the morning with getting kids ready for school and

all that stuff (or when she's wearing pink and I haven't mopped the

hardwoods recently enough hehe) I let her out early. Typically when she

gets out early it's at about the 11.5 hour mark.

My question is - how many of you who are at this point - who also don't do

naps - continue DBB wear during waking hours making your older child crawl

for that time? I am really interested in the much older children - how do

you make a nearly 4 year old wear the DBB and crawl around to get the

required time in? Or do you? Darbi doesn't care one way or the other - I

think she's starting to get to the point where she is interested in me

taking them off in the morning - she sits there patiently waiting for me to

untie them and pulls her feet out herself. She almost always goes to sleep

at 8pm, but rarely sleeps till 8am unless she goes to sleep around 9. So

her sleeping hours average about 10.5 or 11 hours regularly.

love to hear comments. Thanks!
