Guest guest
I've been lurking a lot, but have been trying to keep up with the digests. I went for a follow-up ultrasound yesterday. My fibroid is the same size as it was in October (about 6x7 cm with another small 1cm on the other side). The woman who did the ultrasound showed me the pictures, explained what/where everything was, and was super in explaining it all. Then afterwards I met with my doctor. He said since it's not causing problems beyond an occasional sensation of something " being there " (not pain, just can feel it), let it be. Yes, I could get pregnant if I wanted, even with it there. Yes, maybe eventually it could cause problems, but if it's not now, then let it be. He explained the options (myo, UAE) and when I mentioned you shouldn't have kids after UAE he said, " They used to say that, but now we're finding that's not a problem. " When I mentioned the RU-486 trials in Rochester (his alma mater) he said, " Yeah, that looks really promising. If in a couple of years your fibroid grows and that becomes FDA approved by then, it might be a good option. " He also mentioned a couple of other drugs that I'd not heard of but are also being researched to shrink fibroids (but specifically said, " not Lupron... that has some nasty side effects " ). What a well-informed guy. He didn't earn that Mensa certificate on his wall for nuthin' I guess. (Okay, the Mensa certificate's a little nerdy, but he's a good doctor anyway.) I practically skipped out to my car. Anyone in the Binghamton NY area, I'd be happy to recommend him. Jen Madrid
