Heparin.

I, myself was on heparin for over 18 months, which I injected daily into my

legs. Vee - you are quite right, after a time the skins thickens. It got so

bad that I could no longer get a needle into my thighs at the injection area

without first getting somebody to throw dart from the other side of the room

into the leg like a dart!

Since then, I have went onto Warfarin. I know Heparin is more stable, but

Warfarin has an antidote. I have a machine at home with which I test my own

INR, so I can adjust the dosage of the Warfarin myself, thus cutting down on

dangerous times when your blood gets to thin. I suffer from VEDS and now that I

can test the blood myself, I feel a lot more confident in managing my own health

with regards to the blood.

Good Luck with the Heparin to those that are using it. I would recommend that

you request a machine that tests the thickness of your blood and move to

warfarin to enable you to predict bleeds etc, therefore allowing you to get the

antidote in time to aid in your long term health and management.

Clear DayHi Faye

I'm so sorry to hear of your sad loss...

With regards to Heparin I have HEDS and recently had seven weeks of Dalteparin

(a Drug similar to Heparin) Injections daily to prevent Thrombosis after a Knee

Replacement.

I injected into my Lower Abdomen and I got a small dark bruise each day and

after a few weeks my skin seemed to 'thicken'...I had to push the needle with

some force to pierce the skin but it was almost painless.

I finished the injections just before Christmas and still have some bruising.

I did find I bruised more and also bled more easily when I had blood draws but

it wasn't too much of a problem.

Sending loving thoughts to you and Simon
