Guest guest
Hi It sounds to me like your little girl has a pressure sore rather than a blister. Caused when pressure cuts of circulation to that little area. These can be quite serious if they get bad, because the area of skin actually dies. You've got to get the pressure off to get rid of the problem. However, If you are going to leave the brace off for a number of days I would consider having your little one casted to hold correction. Relapse can happen in a matter of hours and then you have to start correcting again! Alot of Mum's get the heel cut out of the offending boot. Some have relief just from blister bandaids or double socking that foot. My son had a nasty one on his ankle bone, and we thought about flying all the way across the country to have him recasted while it healed. I contacted my doctor and he offered some great suggestions and luckily they worked. I double socked, skipped the last eyelet, put a pad in his shoe and everynight a new bandaid with foam stuck on top witha hole cut out in the middle to releive pressure. Sounds like alot but it became part of the normal nighttime routine. This doesn't help your daughter though as hers is in a different spot. But persevere and try different things. Going for long periods with no support may not be the way to go. You've got to find the problem and solve it. As for the crying for so many days...is her bar long enough? Shoulder width heel to heel. If it is too short it can be really uncomfortable for baby. Hope my 2 cents worth helps. Keep in touch. -Ruth Mum to Ben born March 31, 2003 unilateral left clubfoot. > Hi. I am new to this group. Guest guest
, you know what....to this day (6 months later) I still do not know what EXACTLY caused my daughters bilateral pressure sores, that started out as purple " blisters " but weren't really blisters. She ended up in three different casts for five additional weeks to heal the areas because they were so bad. Ciara cried like Kaitlin has been....we got no sleep....it was H.E.L.L...so I can totally empathize with you. First we found out that both shoes were not in the proper angle, they were set differently, and I think the bar was not the correct width for her shoulders. After the five weeks in the casts, Shriners gave her a totally new bar and threw the old one away per Dr. Dobbs. The brace shop cut holes in the shoes and we have been fine ever since. I do know that after having the holes in the heels of the shoes, I can definitely see her heel and that helps in knowing that the feet are all the way back and in as far as they need to be when putting the brace on. I just read Kori's post before I sent this, and I think she hit the " nail on the head " as far as why Ciara's pressure sores were caused. I just didn't know enough to figure out that was why and reading what she wrote makes TOTAL SENSE!!!! Hang in there, it will get better!!
