Guest guest
This is why my husband is so passionate about Kai not having surgery! When he was a teen he shattered his femur (3 wheeler accident) at the hip socket and had to have pins and a rod - whole nine yards - and in the healing process he lost the ability to move his foot. The doc's wanted to operate on the soft tissue but his father would not let them. 6 months later when they were starting to consider surgery he was able to move his toe. Surgery never happened and he has full motion now! Oddly enough, my father also shattered his femur at 17 (motorcycle accident). This was in 1967, and the docs thought the only thing to do for him was amputate. His mother would not allow it and finally they contacted a professor at UCLA who came in a reconstructed the bone. He had pins, plates and a rod. He has a crooked leg (that is, his toes point out at a 45 degree angle) but walks normally. Doesnt even have arthritis in the hip (he does have arthritis in his hands, both of which were also badly broken, had pins in his fingers). That is why he paid for Kai to go to IC to be seen by Dr Ponseti Funny how such experiences can totally change an outlook on clubfoot! Guest guest
Oh my gosh, Charity! I had no idea that you'd broken (shattered!) your poor leg. You truly are a superwoman!!! Good thoughts and prayers heading your way tomorrow as you face your second surgery. Thanks for the quilt update. I'm eagerly anticipating seeing the photos! Guest guest
Charity, So sorry to hear you are going through so much! I had no idea that you were dealing with this in addition to the organization of the wonderful quilt project. Take care of yourself first - I know you want to get the quilt done - and it will get done, but your health comes first! Anticipating hearing how surgery went and how you are doing postoperatively.
