Guest guest
What really surprised me, was that he also wants me to go to a chiropractor. It's a doctor that he knows, and he feels he will be able to help me and not hurt the EDS part of me. I told him about Mike and the discussion on cranial-sacral therapy and also myofascial release, and he said those may be a consideration as well, but wants me to try this doctor first. I'm to call him in two weeks to let him know how I'm doing. He did, however, give me another name of someone that does those (or maybe one of them and I don't remember which one). His name is Jay Burr (Mike, this is for your sake if you're reading this) and he used to do physical therapy at a former clinic where my doctor worked. ---------------------- I did a quick web search for CST trained practitioners in Omaha and came up with 70 names, including a Jay Burr, PT. If you have paid any attention at all to any of the posts I have done where I have helped people find practitioners, you already know that I NEVER recommend someone with just the basic training unless there is no other option. In all candor and total honesty, there are at least a dozen in Omaha that are far more qualified. The Burr that I found just shows one class in CST but three in NMT. As info, I don't much care for NMT work for EDS folks because I find it to be too damn aggressive at times and it quite frankly hurts. One name in particular, however, caught my eye. It is a Betty . She is an LMT. Her phone number is . Her listing shows having taken CST I and II twice each, Somato Emotional Release, four classes in Process Acupressure, and nine classes in Zero Balancing. In simple terms, Zero Balancing is a major energetic modality. Process Acupressure is essentially a knock-off of Jin Shin Do acupressure. The developer of it actually got her start by going through the Jin Shin Do program and then putting her own spin on things. Also in total honesty, if I was in Omaha and was looking for someone to work on me, Betty is the one I would call, hands-down.
Guest guest
One other question, Mike, before I sign off - are the energy and acupressure modalities covered at all by insurance, do you know? --------------- It depends on how what your insurance covers and how the therapist codes it. Generally, for things like massage to be covered by insurance, you need a prescription from your primary care provider. It will be a prescription for something like massage to relax tight muscles or whatever. Your therapist will then code according to what the prescription says. Standard medical coding will be used because you probably won't be covered if they spell out exactly what they are doing - like running energy. They will code for the condition and symptoms and not necessarily the specific techniques used. This sucks, but that's the way it is if you want to get coverage. Guest guest
Hi Jill, Well, I'm beginning to notice very slight improvements. The med he gave me to help me sleep I believe is going to help. I haven't had a headache yet, so I don't know about the med for that. Today I had my first manipulation with the chiropractor. He first showed me my xrays. I have a pretty bad neck, I think he said at C5 and C6. He felt I must have had a very bad trauma to my neck in the past 20 years or so. I don't remember it if I did. It is close to becoming fused in that area. He believes he can keep it from doing that; however, he can't put me in the normal range, as it's too degenerated. My doctor had told me several years ago, that I had cervical disk degeneration. Also, in the lower spine, there is a place that is right next to the stage my neck is in. He will better be able to help that area. He also said I have one hip about an inch higher than the other, and that it's also rotated forward to quite an extent. He feels he'll be able to correct that. BUT, he told me it will take some time, and quite a few treatments, and would like to see me be able to be on a maintenance program, even after he has those two areas as good as he can get them. That would mean once a week to see if I need manipulation. For now, and probably a couple months, it will be three times a week, and then for several weeks after that, twice a week. He did do a mild manipulation of my neck and back today, but I don't really feel a lot better yet. He did say there is a LOT of inflammation in both places. If anyone on the list has had a history with chiropractors, I would be interest in what you have to say about it. I'm hoping to improve, and believe I will, but I think it may take a few weeks to feel much better. Thanks for asking, Jill! How are YOU doing?
