Guest guest
Wow Tory! Thanks for sharing about your fourth. I think I'll live life vicariously through you for awhile!! :-) in CO How was your fourth? So how was your fourth? Ours was very nice. Since we have to work later into the summer, we've really been trying to make the most of our weekends and evenings. Saturday morning I had planned to meet some people in my marathon group for a six mile run. We didn't have an official meeting that day due to the holiday. I met two men and a woman. Roy ran with us for half the length then went back, and the lady is a walker so she walked with her dog. I paced slow with a guy named once Roy turned around and had a nice visit. After the run Roy and I hopped on our bikes and rode from Ballard to the UW. We poked around the University Village (nice outdoor mall very similar to The Grove in LA) and had lunch, then biked back. Since we had planned to run a race that evening we decided to get a hotel in Seattle and make a weekend of it. We had a nice afternoon. Saw the movie " The Terminal " which is very very good. Tom Hanks...can't beat him. He was great. Then we checked into our hotel and rested up for our race. It was Seattle's only midnight run. It started at 11:55 p.m. on Mercer Street, right near the Seattle Center, and ended at the International Fountain. It was DARK, but we had a good time. I ran in 27 minutes and Roy came in about 32. Considering how much we ran/biked during the day, those were decent times (for us slowbees). The fourth we decided that since we had our bikes we'd park our car in free parking and bike around town instead of walking or driving. What a way to go! We got around so much faster than if we'd had a car. Traffic was horrible. We tooled all over downtown Seattle, did some window shopping, spent a LOT of time in the Elliot Bay Bookstore, and visited the sites at the Fourth of Jul-Ivars celebration. Lots of live music and food (we stuck to corn on the cob, sans butter). On the way back to our hotel we stopped and picked up deli sandwiches and fruit for a picnic. We watched the fireworks over Lake Union and Elliot Bay from the top of the Space Needle. That was REALLY neat! What a view! Tomorrow it's back to work, but today we met Kendra and her kids for a movie (Spiderman 2) then Roy and I went to Twin Lakes where I tried an open water swim for the first time in my very BRIGHT blue and pink wetsuit! My first triathlon is on Sunday so it was time to get into the " big " water and make sure I'm not going to drown on the first leg. After the swim (Roy stood on shore ready to jump in if I needed help...I was fine.) we hopped on our bikes and did a half hour hard ride, then ran about a mile and a half around the lake. Tonight I am TIRED! Can't imagine why? We have two more weeks of school. I'm really looking forward to being out. We've got our weekends booked, though...next weekend is the triathlon (although we do have school on Saturday, which is a bummer). The following weekend, two concerts. The weekend after that, two more concerts...then off to Norway! So how was your fourth? ~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~' Tory Klementsen, MCP A+ Career and Technology Educator www.teechur.com www.msteechur.com -The successful person will do the things that the unsuccessful person will not.
