Carol. I don't know this drug, but I know one thing for sure. Any time you are taking a drug that may affect your pancreas or liver function you must be scheduled for regular blood work to check the enzymes and see whether there are any changes due to this medication. I never had problems with my pancreas until I was on Zocor for an extended period. Although I can't prove it I'm sure it is Zocor that started my pancreas problems. Still, my liver function was being checked on a regular basis. Same with Diflucan.

I think you should question the doctor. He can't just tell you to drop it if it starts bothering your pancreas. Once it starts bothering it, there's a chance you will be left with a bothering pancreas for life. I think you're doing good to question his attitude, and you should do something about it.

Fw: Question regarding 6-MP

My GI doctor gave me a script for 6-MP and the only thing he told me about it was to stop using it if I got symptoms of pancreatitis. My pharmacist gave me paperwork stating how serious a drug it is and someone else asked me how often I have bloodwork done while on the drug. I wasn't given 6-MP for my Lupus but for my Ulcerative Colitis but I know some of you have experience with it. Sometimes I just don't have enough trust with this doctor. He likes to dole out the pills to easily. I didn't think I needed anything else to control my UC, I'm doing alright. Maybe I'm over reacting here but this doctor didn't order any bloodwork at all let alone follow-up bloodwork and he didn't tell me when he wanted to see me again. He just gave me, literally, a grocery bag full of drugs and sent me home! Should I be concerned about using 6-MP without any kind of follow up? I have a nine month script for this stuff.....that in itself is weird......usually a new script is for 1-3 months to see if it works. I would appreciate any information anyone who has taken 6-MP.
