Guest guest
I don't want to sound like an idiot but I have to ask this question. Are all clubfeet ATYPICAL ? If not, what is the difference between atypical club foot and other ones? Are there a lot of different kinds? My doctor never mentioned that word. Guest guest
You definitely do not sound like an idiot! I am hoping that by the end of next week I will have a good description from Dr Ponseti of what are the symptoms of atypical clubfoot. In the mean time, basically it is a foot or feet that do not respond to casting and manipulation or bracing in the normal way. usually there is something else with the foot that is unusual in comparison with a " normal " clubfoot. Like in my son's case, his plantar tendon, as well as other portions of the mid foot, are unusually tight and always wanting to relapse even with proper brace wear, but at the same time, other parts of his foot are so easily corrected it is silly! there are other's here whose children could get out of all of their casts, or whose foot refused to correct with the regular casting and required some modifications to the casting to correct. I believe that almost all of the children with atypical clubfoot are now using the Brace because the Markell shoes just dont tend to work very well for an atypical clubfoot. Yes, there are alot of different kinds. Not all doctors are familiar with it, so a child could have it and be having serious troubles with the correction process and their doctor not understand why. Last information I had was that some form of atypical clubfoot accounts for a very small percent of all clubfeet (less than 5% I think) Angel RE: If someone could briefly explain to me....
