Guest guest
Dear AD: Your feelings of fear are quite understandable, and many of us felt the way you did when first diagnosed. However, your doctor's refusal to give you any information and reassurance about your fibroids is really appalling. Absolutely unacceptable. Shame on her, for depriving you of the most basic information that could have educated and comforted you, about an extremely common, benign condition. The actual word " doctor " derives from the Latin word for " teacher. " And of all the hats that a good physician wears, teaching and imparting information is one of the most important. Your doctor sounds painfully deficient in this area. To me, this would be a red flag to go elsewhere. Don't accept this shabby, inadequate medical " treatment. " You and all of us women here deserve much better. Wherever did your lazy doctor get the idea that it was ok to give you a " referral " --to Dr. Internet. " As if the information on the Internet was ALL reliable, factual and truthful!!!!!??!! The good news is, the more you know the FACTS about fibroids, and understand all your options on how to intervene....or NOT to intervene...and how to treat symptoms--the more in control you'll feel-- and the less scared. UNLIKE your doctor, we on this list (the LOL, or " Ladies of the List) are all here to listen and support you. So, WELCOME , and any questions...fire away! I was about to burst into tears and that's all she told me (I couldn't beleive it). Well, I have been getting educated about fibroids and this forum has been very helpful. I just had an ultrasound done. Do any of you have any referrals for a good (compassionate) doctor in the L.A. area specializing in myomectomy. I am thinking that this is probably the best option for me, because I don't yet have kids and I am only 32.

Guest guest
Hi, First I have to say that you made a GREAT decision about seeking another doctor. You go girl! Your doc's " explanation " sounds fishy and her bed side manner is uncalled for and terrible. It's her job to explain about fibroids and treatment options. Many women here have had fibroids as large or larger than yours and have had them removed by a myo. Don't let anyone tell you this is too big to remove. It's good that you don't have a lot of symptoms including the heavy bleeding. You might try an RE (Reproductive Endocrinologist). They are often more practiced in Myos than plain GYNs. You might ask for a saline sono (SAS) or MRI for a better picture. Don't be afraid. You will have a lot of support from this group. Ask questions. Tell them your specific fears and they will help you. You are not alone and the people here are filled with compassion. Welcome! I haven't had major symptoms so I never suspected anything was wrong until I felt the lump on my abdomen and went to the doc to get it checked out. The only symptoms that I'd experienced were lower back pain once in a while and lately bloating.
