Guest guest
I had both hips done during the last couple years. The first was a m/m THR with a press-fit stem. I was walking the day after the surgery (with meds) and was healed up with absolutely no pain within 4 months. I then had a resurface THR on the other hip. It has now been 9 months and I still can't walk more than 50 yards or so without pain. I had to stop PT because I was straining my muscles, not strengthening them. The surgeon said the implants were in the right place. I went to a rehab doctor who thought my back could be causing my hip and leg muscles to be weak and strain easily. MRI showed a very slight bulge in my L4 disk. May or may not be the cause of the slow recovery. I have 2 questions: 1)Is this a slow recovery Or does it take longer to recover from a resurf than from a press-fit THR? 2) Has anyone had a combination of hip and back problems? Thanks for the info.
