Guest guest
2817.1 Hi Everyone I have just cut and pasted the following message from Shomon's Forum from in Australia because I think this is a splendid idea. This is a wonderful way we could all contribute towards helping other people who do not have computers. posted some time ago that she thought it would be a good idea to pass on good thyroid books which we had either finished with or would be willing to buy and paste a printed 'Donation Notice' in the book with information as to how they could be directed to library internet resources to access support groups etc., Anyway, the following is what she suggests. Luv - Sheila __________________________________________ THYROID AWARENESS WEEK I have posted on the US Boards to Maureen when I noticed on her messages that thyroid awareness week in America is in Jan 2005 and offer the following idea for everyones consideration in the USA and also the UK boards For each of us who feel they can donate a Thyroid Info Book (mary Shomons or Dr Peatfields Great Thyroid Scandal or any other considered suitable) to the donators own local library. This would be at minimun cost to each of us but cover a great area. The media coverage would be very beneficial highlighting thyroid concerns and helping direct those without internet access to help. A printed Donation Notice in front of the book for readers to access their library internet resource to these about.com thyroid website and learn more. The books would be re-read many times. Thru these thyroid boards we can achieve this - Perhaps those interested could respond. If we do this we can make a difference - and if we all do this in January during thyroid awareness week - we may have media coverage for maximum exposure. I would also point out that as many ppl here are from different countries, that is another angle. I have also written a suggested Donation Notice to be pasted in the book as well as a suggested media release which could also print it out send that in to our local newspapers. let me know what you think !!!! jenny in australia _________________________________ DONATION NOTE THIS BOOK HAS BEEN DONATED TO THIS LIBRARY DURING THYROID AWARENESS WEEK AS AN INITIATIVE OF FELLOW THYROID SUFFERERS WE INVITE READERS TO JOIN US ON THE FORUMS AT http://www.thyroid.about.com " Knowledge is Power " MEDIA RELEASE During January's National Thyroid Awareness week Thyroid Sufferers around the world are donating selected books to their local library to assist other Thyroid Sufferers to know more about their illness. Many men and women currently striving to overcome Thyroid Disease or researching a suspected illness meet up on thyroid boards on the http://www.thyroid.about.com thyroid forums on the internet sharing their experiences whilst helping and supporting each other. These forums were established by the best selling author of Living Well with Hypothyroidism, Shomon, herself a thyroid sufferer and as a result, many have found possible answers to their thyroid concerns. Realising that not everyone has access to the internet or are not comfortable using a computer, some members of the internet forum believe that by donating recommended books, which have personally helped them, to their local area library, they can help others in a practical way. The nominated books for donation so far are: Living Well with Hypothyroidism. Author: Shomon Pub: Harper rrp US$14.00 amazon.com US$8.39 Living Well with Autoimmune Disease. Author: Shomon Pub: Harper rrp$14.95 amazon.com $10.17 The Great Thyroid Scandal - and how to survive it.
