Guest guest
Hi Yosi: I know Leon and of course Higaonna Sensei. I met both of them at a seminar in San Diego in 1990. I'm also an ex-South African, like Leon. I have noticed I still have a muscle pain that I had before the second surgery, but the joint pain is completely gone. Can you tell which it is? Mine is the psoas. If you didn't train for such a long time before surgery, chances are it's going to be a long recovery period during which you have to think about your movements before just rushing in and doing them. Goju Ryu is heavily dependent on hip movement, as you know. Much more so than linear styles like Shotokan and Shitoryu. LIke all of us, your body has been compensating for the pain, and now that the source is gone, you have a lot of modifications to make. I recommend you do some therapy with someone who can balance you out before you continue strenuous training because it's likely you're going to aggravate your pain if you don't approach it properly. You probably just pushed it a bit too far. I find when I do have pain, it goes away. It's when it doesn't go away that it's troubling. Who did your surgery? I was 4th Dan, and used to run 2 dojos. Yesterday, for the first time since my resurf on November 4, I had a twinge of the same pain that I used to feel pre-op. Did you ever experience anything like that? I am really worried about it. No pain now, but maybe I should take it easy for a bit?
