Guest guest Posted June 6, 2006 Report Posted June 6, 2006 Hi - Symptoms resolve at varying rates, and it also varies by individual. I will say that my observation is that most people get SOME relief within a couple of weeks, especially in GI symptoms. BUT, you can experience a detoxing of sorts that makes you wonder if you are on the right track. Neuro symptoms, and fatigue, seem to be more stubborn and can take months to resolve. I hope you get some relief soon. Sue in Denver > > Good morning. I am new to this list and this field and would be > grateful for a bit of info. Guest guest Posted June 6, 2006 Report Posted June 6, 2006 , Good luck on your gluten-free efforts. I just wanted to encourage you to not give up right away if you don't feel better immediately. I've beeb gluten-free for about four months, and although I'm feeling much better, I still have some symptoms that aren't completely gone. But I know that the longer I go without gluten the better I will feel so I just keep plugging away. Anyway, I wish you the best of luck and hope you feel better soon ~Amy Quote

Guest guest Posted June 6, 2006 Report Posted June 6, 2006 Hi Amy, You and I are in the exact same boat. Hopefully, it won't be too much longer before we're back to feeling 100% great. Until then, we'll keep on keeping on. Cheryl peanut_31786 wrote: , Good luck on your gluten-free efforts. Guest guest Posted June 7, 2006 Report Posted June 7, 2006 My daughter at 14 months was so sick, even stopped crawling and standing, on the second day on the diet she stood up in her crib, on the third day she crawled again, now being smaller than us as adults maybe hr reaction time was quicker, but at about two weeks on the diet her bowel movements started improving. Good Luck > > > Quote

Guest guest Posted June 7, 2006 Report Posted June 7, 2006 : You might notice differences right away, or it may take a while. Don't forget that it took time to bring you to the point to where you are now. You need time to heal from the damage done to your villi and the rest of your body. If you were to see an herbalist or natropath, I am sure that they could recommend some herbs to speed your healing process and strengthen you. I was near my end only 8 months ago with cancer and food intolerances to everything that I ate. I chose the wholistic approach to my healthcare and have found it so much more gentle, caring, and less invasive. I am healing well and feeling stronger. I am new to this list and this field and would be grateful for a bit of info. A very, very brief intro follows the question. The question is: if I go stark raving cold turkey gluten free right now (actually, as of Sunday eve), how long should I expect before I start seeing noticeable results?Background/brief intro for this: 47 yr old male, highly active and fit, experiencing what in retrospect look like possible CD symptoms for 1+ year on a mild-ish basis; experienced sort of "crash and burn" symptoms in Feb/Mar. Tried to treat as individual problems and only just now stepping back and wondering if the message in the big picture isn't CD. Symptoms include pain/numbness/burning feet; muscle/joint pain esp in thighs and a little in R arm; balance + coordination loss; beer intolerance; milk intolerance; wheat -> gas, stool problems; metallic taste in mouth; chronic fatigue; chronic pain; night sweats + sleep problems. Basically, in 9 months I've gone from able to keep up with collegiate athletes to being barely able to walk (literally) and in constant pain. I'm wondering/hoping that CD might be a diagnosis. Blood tests for this and a bunch of other possibles were drawn yesterday so it will be a bit of time before the lab results are back.Until then, I'm wondering, as a diagnostic indicator, if I *am* wheat or gluten intolerant, and if they are causing all these symptoms, how long after ditching gluten completely should I start to see an improvement? Many thanks Newell Quote
