BUT, I beleive that we have a truly " kindred type of spirit " . We know that we've both taken a lot of the same courses. And, that we've each taken some, that the other wishes that they had already taken. And this whole " Tuina " thing, has me completely convinced. Honestly, I knew that there were multiple levels & types of pulses, but knowing that this was going through the entire CEDA list, I chose to keep it more simple for right now & figured I'd follow it up in a bit, for a few reasons. It's been a nightmare few weeks & day to forget in NYC. One major ones is that I have had an exhusting few days, culminating in seeing a new surgeon for my ankle, after 2 prior operations, today. I had a fusion done last April & after complaining of pain for at least 2 months, clearly telling him that it was deep bone pain, he felt that it could be the screw & felt that the X-Ray, showed a complete fusion & removed the screw only 4 months later in August. BIG mistake, HUGE! Long story short, the removal was a disaster. He asked me if he could do the screw removal under local, with just an injection, in his office at the time, in the O.R. at the start & 45 minutes after we entered the O.R. (that's 3 times), after the idiot (that's the nicest word I could use to describle the alleged anesthesiologist) could not start an IV at the time of surgery!!! He tried a minimum of 11-15 times, could not start an IV, wouldn't listen to a word I said & completely ignored me. Truthfully, I'm an RN, I was a hemodialysis nurse, I have had @ 50 operations & countless procedures & likely hundreds & hundreds of IV's put in. I know a lot, I mean a lot about IV's. He wouldn't listen to any " hints " I suggested. And then, the surgeon again began to beg me to let him remove the screw under local, again, meaning of course a shot right into my ankle. I had said NO in his office, NO at the start & NO for the third time in the O.R. when the idiot couldn't start the IV. I had said no, for many reasons, the least of which was that the shot likely would produce no anesthesia, which I explained over & over again. Believe it or not, against my will, he gave me the shot, which was a killer & removed this huge screw & of course, I felt everything. I literally tried several times to get off the table, but they had me tied down everywhere & put an old style large mask over my mouth & nose, so that they couldn't hear or didn't have to listen to me yell at them to stop, anymore. Needless to say, I was livid. And the surgeon's explanation to me post op, when I asked him why, when I said NO, NO, NO, over and over, starting weeks before, that he went ahead & did it despite my VERY clear objection, he said he felt it was in my " best interest " , since I had been through pre op & had been there an hour. Nonesenese. He did it because HE had been there for an hour & he wasn't about to lose the time!!!!! Well, having also been an RN paralegal for a malpractice office for @ 7 years, would you guess that he picked the wrong person to mess with? I think I'll leave that there. To quickly finish this, I saw a new surgeon today, becaue after the screw removal, my ankle became increasingly more painful & if I told you all everything that happened since then, you almost wouldn't believe it, but it ended in a total non fusion. So, now you know why I saw a new surgeon today & will have to have the entire fusion redone, more complicated this time. And, I will have to delay it until after the conference, as I don't have enough time to heal properly pre-conference, due to the very intense post op course. Bacl to Tuina. so that basically is why I didn't go into the different pulses right now, but it was more than freaky at the time. I'm just exhuasted & don't think I could have explained it as clearly, simply & easily as good as you did. I only stopped the Tuina, because certain much need segments were hurting me & it became very, very expensive, when he suddently left my rheumatologist, who gave him his start & wasn't insurance covered & I had 2 children about to start college & sky high taxes, on a big house, which we eventually sold 2 1/2 years ago. So it goes. I have many more " weapons in my arsenal against EDS " I would like to formally volunteer my pulse, wrist, etc., whatever you need for your study & am fascinated & we simply must find a way for me to assist you in you plans for the conference. I am arriving in Buffalo on Sunday, as I offered, several months ago to help the crowd up in Buffalo, so depending on when you intend to get there, we could plan something then or before & somewhere in between. I will be staying at Sue's house, while we work on conference stuff from the time I arrive on Suday, until I beleive, onTues. when we go to the hotel. So, let's be in touch. I've got to go to sleep. Take care, Given what I just went through the last four days with Visceral Manipulation, I am really curious about correlating or integrating Chinese Pulse Diagnostics with Visceral Manipulation " listening " techniques on the actual physical organs. I am also really curious about whether there are any consistent patterns with either where EDS is involved. Are there consistent patterns for HEDS? For VEDS? If there are, are they the same or different, HEDS versus VEDS? That is going to be one of my little research projects when I am traveling around the country this year. I hope to be able to put my hands on several dozen sets of wrists to develop a research file. Is the Tu Nia that you mentioned above something similar, different or the same, but just spelled differently, ------------------- I will address your second point first. They are exactly the same. I probably had it misspelled as two words instead of one. It is a form of Chinese medical massage. I know WHAT it is but have had no formal training or experience in it personally. And he did not just read your " radial " pulse. In Chinese medicine there is not just " one " pulse - there are twelve. There are six on each wrist, three superficial and three deep. Each corresponds to a specific meridian - kidney, lungs, gall bladder, etc. There is an entire " field " called Pulse Diagnostics. You read the different pulses in terms of strength, quality, etc. Is it strong and vibrant? Is it weak? Does it have a fluttery, slippery or erratic feel to it? Does it feel in excess or does it feel deficient? There is a whole range of characteristics that they look at/listen for. My Jin Shin Do training is just now starting to really get into pulse reading. I have done enough of it in class now to be intrigued by it. What your 5th generation master was able to pick up in about a minute does not surprise me in the least. It is a real art, taking a life time to master. But with someone who has mastered it, their ability will absolutely blow your mind on what they can pick up. I think a master at pulse diagnostics can pick up more in less than two minutes with his/her hands than half the fancy ass equipment in most hospitals. As I have posted before, I am becoming more and more convinced that some of the underlying cause, not only of EDS but other chronic and/or autoimmune disorders, lies in the body's energetic system. If I am right, then effective treatment also has to address the energetic body. Some of the symptomatic successes we have been seeing in the last couple of months with people on the list using various acupressure or polarity techniques is highly suggestive. At this point, I don't have any answers - I just keep getting more questions. Trying to, if not get actual answers at least research some possibilities, is one of the main reasons why I want to put miles on the RV over the next six months. I need to test some of my theories and the only way I can do that is to get my hands on as many bodies as possible.
