Hello Serap and welcome do this group.

I was 22 (I'm now almost 40) and just newlywed when diagnosed with Lupus

Nephritis. My first three years were on the rocks and my kidneys were not

doing well at all. My doctors told me I would have to think twice about

pregnancy. Then I went into a long remission & 7 years after being

diagnosed I had my first son, now 9 years old. I was on prednisone

throughout the pregnancy, but had to get off imuran prior to getting

pregnant. The pregnancy was considered high risk, but everything went ok, so

the doctors agreed that if I continue in a remission period I can consider

another pregnancy after some rest. 2.5 years later I gave birth to my second

son, Kasper, now 7. During the pregnancy with him I was on very little

medication, mostly on Lasix, due to fluid retention. I thought that was it.

Actually, I started having some lupus issues and never even dreamed of

having another child. I considered myself lucky to have two and we weren't

planning on having more anyway. Well, fate had something else in store for

us. When Kasper was almost 3, I found out I was pregnant and some months

later I had another baby boy, now 3.5 years old. I was on more medication

during that pregnancy and it wasn't an easy one, but everything turned out

ok, and I'm a proud mother of 3 boys. It wasn't until about two years ago

when things started going downhill for me again. I think I was given that

nice long remission to be able to become a mother, more that I ever dreamed

off.

Each case is different, but if you are doing well and have doctors who

will see you through, you may want to consider another pregnancy. There is

no guarantee, but you don't get that even when healthy. Speak with your

doctors, see what they tell you, consider the medication you are on and the

steps you will need to take. Also, don't forget in most cases lupus

pregnancies are high risk and there's more tests and more running around to

be considered during the pregnancy. If you do decide to go ahead with it,

please make sure your obgyn is a high risk specialist. If not, get yourself

one.

Good luck to you. Listen to your doctors, but also to your body and your

heart.
