Guest guest
Oh Sharon I " m so sorry to hear of your shoulder trauma! Owch for sure!!! :-X :'-C I think I may have found a good shoulder brace for my subluxations but I haven't actually recieved it in the mail yet! It's suppose to pull the upper arm and hold the head of the upper arm bone in the shoulder socket. And with the way the brace is designed your suppose to have a decent amount of ROM. I think this brace may be good for me for preventing subluxations. I'll let you know how effective it is as soon as I get it though. I'll put down a few links with different photos of the brace as well as the descriptions for it and you can see what you think. I found a site that sells it for $38 US (some of the sites list it as high as $60US) and will gladly pass it on if you want. http://ecom1.sammonspreston.com/sammons/hemiShoulder.html http://www.wisdomking.com/product18683c357.html http://www.ketteringsurgical.com/upperlimb/shoulder/hsiinfo.htm The following URL is to the company I purchased mine from. Shipping is a tad slow but I " m blaming that on the x-mas holidays. http://www.alimed.com/product_detail.cfm? VMID=9 & CategoryID=302 & FamilySKU=51%2D050 And Jo, maybe this brace would be an option for you :-S ??? It comes in an x-tra small size of 9 inches around the biggest part of the upper arm. Might still be too big for you... :-/ I'll let you both know if I find it any help with my shoulder subluxations. Hope this helps! BOOOO shoulders are the pits >:-X -Rhea
Guest guest
Just thought I'd add a bit to my last comment on 's shoulder. After her surgery, the dr came out and told us that he couldn't get her arm lined up perfectly, and that she will never have her full range of motion back. (Which made me pretty mad - I thought he should have tried harder. I also think he should have pinned it when it first happened! But, he let her linger in pain for 2 weeks, and then only did the surgery after it had moved) Oh, that was maddening! Well, she hasn't been able to raise her arm straight up since. I'd say maybe 130 degrees. (I think that's right - not good a math. Maybe Mike can verify this) When Mike saw her, he worked on her shoulder for about 10 minutes. almost immediately said " oh, this feels weird " . Things were moving around in there, and Mike was only holding some points. Right afterwards, she could raise it almost completely, and still can. Now, it seems, he will have to work on her elbow, which seems to be restricting some of her movement. But, it was amazing, because after 10 minutes with Mike, she is able to move it better than ever since the accident, even though the orthopedic surgeon said she never would get all that motion back. Re: Damb Shoulder - Slings I completely agree with you about it being difficult to get a proper fit in the immobilaser slings. I have one for when my shoulder dislocates and find i can still move my arm and the sling ends up slipping down too as I'm only tiny - I'm 5ft, weigh 38kg, have a 20inch waist and you could play the xylophone on my ribs! (I have terrible trouble keeping weight and muscle tone, but that's another issue) Sharon, I'm hoping to get something more subsyntial and immobilsing form my OS when I see him next as I'm still subluxing in the current one. You might be as well asking your GP or a PT about a more immobilising splint such as the ones Rhea has been looking into for her shoulder. I'll let you know if Mac has any suggestions for mine though too. An MRI might not be a bad idea of it still giving you trouble after the weekend Darl. I actually have my shoulder MRI on Tuesday (they couldn't do an arthrogram because of my Iondine allergy) so I'm keeping everything crossed thta by some miracle he'll have some idea of how to stabilse it when I see him too. Here's hoping! Take care and know I'm thinking of you and cringing at how painful these shoulders of ours can be!
