Hey -

My dr said she would write a script for the silver ring splints.

I just have to ask at my pt if they know how to fit them.

But what I was wondering is -

They sound pretty expensive. I have great insurance - Regence Blue

Shield. But, I was wondering if you had any problem getting

insurance to pay for them?

Should I call them first?

My insurance paid for them without any problem. I had Blue Cross at the

time. Make sure they write them up as finger splints and not " silver " ring

splints as some insurance companies don't like the word silver.

Garris at the Silver Ring Splint Company can probably give your therapist

advice on insurance billing. Just have your therapist call the company and

ask for a sizing kit and catalog. Also, if your therapist hasn't done

sizing before, they can call me up and I can do a demo for them. I've done

a training on sizing for a group of therapists before. Basically, what I do

is have them size my fingers and then compare that to the actual size of the

splints so they get a feel for how the sizes run.

- I have silver ring splints for myself and has them too. We

had to pay for them outright and send the bill to the insurance company. You

need to send the insurance company a copy of the original prescription from

MD, a letter of medical necessity from the doctor (for each person getting

splints)...then it's a waiting game. The co. is great to work with. I had

to send my splints back to be traded for larger sized ones. Barb mentioned

that you can call the co. to find OT's or PT's that have training in them.

Barb also knows of people who can fit them too. Getting a proper fit is key

to being able to wear them successfully. You want the extra strength rings

for EDS which cost a little more, but worth it.

ok,

Thanks! I'm hoping that when I get them, I will be able to play my guitar and

flute again! That is, if my shoulders will allow me to!
