Guest guest
Dear Athena and all, In California there are a few ways you can reduce at least some of your bills. First, contact your local utilities and ask for a handicapped reduction on your bills. It takes a bit of time to get into their "system," but the savings are worth it. Also, ask your doctors if you can pay your bills in installments instead of one chunk. Although Section Eight (subsidized) housing is getting more difficult to obtain, look into that, too, to reduce the amount of rent you're paying out. Call your local housing authority for details. If you belong to a local church or synagoge, sometimes they have funds for people in a situation such as yours. It doesn't hurt to ask. And, if you are on Social Security Disability and are able to, you can earn a certain amount of money each month from part-time employment and still receive your benefits (I think the amount is $750 or $800 a month, now). You might also contact your local lupus organization and see if they have any grants or loan programs for people in a situation such as yours. Hope these suggestions help!
