Guest guest
Hi again, I've just got back from my appt with the Ortho nurse and thought I would let you know things went. The nurse was lovely, an old friend from the orthopaedic team so that was a bonus. She very gently removed my staples, which came out quite well actually - Mac has done a lovely job of closing my wounds too as he knows how badly I scar - bless him. Carol my nurse was upset to hear how poorly I had been following my surgery and very concerned about the pain and possible subluxations I'm having in the shoulder. Unfortunately there was no sign of Mac's surgical notes in my records, so we could finally find out what he had done to me! Thankfully Carol was able to contact Mac's secretary (He wasn't in today sadly) and between them they were able to locate the missing files in his office...typical disorganised Mac! Carol was kind enough to give me all the information from the operation. The good news is that my Biceps and Labrum were okay, the bad news is that my capsule and glenohumeral ligaments were in very bad shape. As such he has had to do far more thermal shrinkage than he's ever performed before, basically resulting in a capsular shift effect. He commented that this was required in order to return the humeral head to a central position within the glenoid, stating that along with having severe multi directional instability my shoulder must have actually been partly dislocated and rotated within the socket for the past year, never fully returning to correct position following my dislocations. I had suspected as much, especially after my last weird x-ray, but it's nice to have the reason for my pain and instability confirmed. I feel a lot better knowing what has actually been done to my shoulder now, but the current situation with my pain and possible subluxations is still causing concern. Carol was unable to offer much idea of what is happening, but again stressed the importance of talking with Mac next week. It's just a shame he wasn't available today really as I know he'd have popped in had he seen me. Oh well, back to the waiting, hoping and praying for another week....I promise I will let you know as soon as I find out anything, and I thank you all for you thoughts, kindness and prayers again - they mean the world to me. Please take care and know I'm thinking of you and keeping you in my prayers too. Love and hugs.....Jo xxx

I truly hope the pain and suspicion of subluxing that is happening with your shoulder isn't going to cause big problems for you! I will certainly be praying right along with you, AND for Mac, that he receives the guidance he needs to see that our Jo is as good and healthy as she can be, very soon! Take it easy and take good care of you! Love Lana
Guest guest
Jo, I am so sorry that you are experiencing such pain. It occurs to me though, after reading what you were told happened in the operating room - that the shoulder in it's new position is adjusting to being there. If it really was out all this time and in a position that it had to adapt to, the same adaptations may be happening because of the surgery in the reverse now.....know what I mean? Sort of like a house settling after a renovation! Jill
