Guest guest
Clear DayI had a total Knee Replacement last November and quickly developed Adhesions to the point where I could not flex the joint beyond 20 degrees so my Ortho admitted me for a Manipulation Under General Anaesthetic and it would not move - he said if he had forced it any further he would have fractured my leg. I had an Open-Reduction four weeks ago to remove Adhesions and in recovery I was fitted to a Continuous Passive Machine set at 50 degrees and this was a permanent fixture 24/7 then each day it was increased by 10 degrees till it got to 90 then this was the fixed flexion. I was in hospital 18 days and after 12 days I began to experience bad spasms on a night-time so I was allowed to sleep without the CPM and re-connected the next morning. Since discharge two weeks ago I've not had any Physio apart from the Straight-Leg Raises, Static Quads and Knee Flexions I do myself and am booked in to have a Physio assessment next Thursday 15th. My knee has become sore and will not straighten beyond 20-30 degrees and I can only flex to 75 degrees. I did go to see my Ortho last Friday but it has got worse since... He took a CRP to check for any infection but I've not heard anything so I presume it's ok. I'm very worried that the Adhesions may have regrown and the stiffness may be permanent. I had a Left TKR in September 2000 and a year later required an Open Reduction to remove Severe Adhesions and Bony Nodules. Has anyone had a similar experience or any advice for me as I am getting very worried as this was always my 'better' side and I feel it is deformed...I cannot make 1 step without my crutches. I am aged almost 38 and also have 's Disease which requires me to take daily steroids. Take care Vee (UK)
