Guest guest
OMG what a story! I think the Dr. knows what happened but the med people always keep their mouths shut. It sounds to me like you had a bad nurse! From: azToy2@... Sent: Tuesday, May 11, 2004 10:53 PM To: LUPIES Subject: Re: okay one more med question Okay guys, one more med question. Yesterday I was in the ER for the second time in two weeks. Nothing with my lupus or fibro, I had some cysts that ruptured on the one ovary the left during the hysterectomy. Anyway, after nine trys they finally got an IV started. I tried to tell the nurse when she flushed it that it didn't feel right because it stung, and she said that she had good return on it. Anyway, she put morphine in it. Not further up the line, but right at my wrist and when she did it started to feel very hot before she finished putting it in. I take Avinza, which is a morphine sulphate, every day with no problems and have had morphine in the IV lots of times between the migraines and fibro. In less than a minute my whole wrist was swollen and she was running for benedryl (sp). The other nurse that was in the room getting blood( from my thumb which hurt like you know what) because they couldn't get a blood draw from the IV said that she didn't think it was the morphine, that the IV was bad. As soon as she yanked the IV and got another one going, my hand stopped hurting. So after all that, here is my question, do I need to tell DR's that I am allergic to morphine now, or do you think it was a bad IV? The Dr said he couldn't really tell which it was a C
