Guest guest
Donna M., About Plaquenil (Hydroxychloroquine)...I, too had nausea the first week or two, but that passed, and they started me on a low dose, then increased it gradually. It has really helped in many ways, mostly in overall pain, and in lowering blood sugars. The only side effect my doc worries over is what it can do to the eyes after long use, especially at higher doses. I, however, have not had any eye damage, and have used it for more than a year this time around. First time around, we used the old formula Plaquenil, and THAT made me so sick, that they took me off it due to dehydration problems. This formula works much better with fewer side effects. Now, I know that the Pred. can rev up your engines big time, and then let you down just as fast. Since you are on a fairly high dose of the stuff, you should probably be weaned at the rate of about one mg. per week, or even slower. Also, you should be started on the hydroxy... long enough to have it kick in before they start reducing the Pred. according to my Rheumy. Just a thought. Let me know what they decide, and how you progress. Hugs, MM
