Sherry, Please, please, please find another Rheumatologist. I wouldn't trust this guy on a bet. They

told me for years that it was all in my head, and then lo and behold! I tested positive for Lupus,

RA, Lyme Disease, Sjogren's Syndrome, Anemia, type II Diabetes, Myofibrositis, and a multitude of

other side conditions. So, firstly, this so-called specialist sounds like the specialist from hell. I hate

to tell you this, but you cannot trust his diagnosis, much as you might have wanted to hear that you

"do not have Lupus", and your internist shouldn't have tested for it. Bah humbug! Doctors should

test for everything they can think of to find out what is going on.

Secondly, I had one Rheumatologist just like that, and he lasted exactly two appointments...one to

get an exam and one to get test results. I told him off in front of his staff and other patients, and

did not pull any punches. You have to take charge of your case, honey, and tell your internist to find

a better referral post haste. Keep us posted on what you find out. Hugs, MM

Dear Sherry,

I'm sorry you had to go throught all that.......Ijust had a bad experience with a new Rheumy.......and am now looking for another one......I hope I get a good one this time.

I wasn't diagnosed with Lupus till I was 54 yrs. old.......Though like many in the group probably had it for years......and thought it was all in my head.

I f you can ......report this jerk to your insurance Co.....that's what I did .

Vist With the Rheumy

Hi,I finally had my visit with the Rheumy and it was a mixed bag. The doctor was the most arrogant, condescending jerk I have ever met in my life! The only positive was that he said that I don't have lupus. Hopefully, I can trust his diagnosis. He said that my internist should never have tested my ANA because people in their 40's don't get lupus and that the positive testresult didn't mean anything. He is foreign and said that doctors in the USA are just afraid of getting sued. First, a young resident came in and examined me. When the Rheumy came he immediately started barking about not to expect a diagnosis (I didn't) and all he did besides barking at me was to rotate my shoulders, extend my knees, and press two spots on my chest(to see if he thought I had fibromyalgia). He went on about how fibromyalgia is a catch-all term and he isn't ready to call it that. He had them x-ray my shoulders and run a blood test to check on my muscle function and said to call back in 2 wks. for the results and to go back for a visit in 3-4 months. Yeah, right! The man didn't have a compassionate bone in his body! By the time he left, I was in tears. My husband was with me and was flabbergasted, too. He said, no way am I gong back to him! I see my internist on Tues. and will tell him what I thought of his referral! If any good can come of this, it is that someone in this group that has not yet seen their Rheumy, they will be sure to inquire about the doctor's reputation for his "bedside manner" before their visit. No matter how qualified a doctor is on paper, if he has no compassion, he should not be involved with patients - especially those dealing with chronic pain. I sure have appreciated all of the information and support that this group has provided these past couple of months. Hope you are all having a pain-free day and have a great weekend!Hugs,Sherry"The LUPIES Store" Come check out our store...http://www.cafepress.com/thelupies"The LUPIES Web Page"http://www.itzarion.com/lupusgroup.html"The LUPIES online photo albums!" Sherry, I'm so sorry you had bad experience with this doctor. That should

never happen. About people in their 40's getting lupus. First of all I don't

think everyone will agree with that. Second, is it possible that you had

lupus before but was never tested for it. Also, many people test negative

for the longest to, finally, after years come up positive.

I'm really happy for you that he said you didn't have Lupus, but as you

said yourself, I hope you can trust his diagnosis.

Kelley, I said almost the same things you did, and I won't be apologizing for them, either. That doc

is a real piece of work, and Shirley should find a Rheumatologist who knows their onions, so to speak.

What you had to say was right on. Hugs, MM

That is the stupidest thing I have ever heard. People don't "get" Lupus, and we sure as hell do develop Lupus after 40. He's an idiot. Just because he has MD after his name doesn't make him smart.

Any doctor that comes in with that kind of attitude, you do yourself a favor and just get up and leave.

I just wanted to say my response looked really aggressive... I'm sorry. I didn't mean it to sound like that. I'm hurting and feel like crap (like we all do. When I hear your experience it gives me flashbacks of all my times I was treated like this, and all the horror stories we have all heard.

I guess I should have been more rational and told you to just hold back your anger (which is hard for me--- I get pretty testy for an Okie ;~) and just listen to what they are saying so you can complain if possible .... and so you can work on your brilliant comeback.

I guess we learn even from the bad doctor experiences. I've been treated like I was lying or making stuff up since I was a child. I was sick a lot as a little girl and they could never find out what was wrong ..... BUT because I was CHUNKY they just figured I was spoiled and over fed.
