I have been kind of hanging around the perimeter of this group. I

haven't formally introduced myself because I wasn't sure if I

belonged. Some of you may remember I posted about my 18 month old

daughter - we weren't sure if she had Celiac or a parasite. Well,

my son and I got tested (blood and saliva)and I got the results back

this afternoon. We both tested in the Celiac range.

So now the doc believes that the most likely case is that my

daughter has Celiac disease AND a parasite. I guess parasitic

infections are common with Celiac, because the damaged gut makes a

perfect place for them to hunker down and hide. Poor baby.

So, now allow me to introduce myself. My name is Amy and I live in

the suburbs of Chicago. I am married and have two children, an 8

year old son and an 18 month old daughter. I have been feeding my

daughter GF for the past 3 months, and myself since the day after

the blood test two weeks ago. I knew I was going to be positive.

It just explains so much about some things that have been going on

lately. Ever since my pregnancy with my daughter, I've had terrible

insomnia, wicked mood swings, and some GI symptoms. My son's only

symptoms are that he tends to get overly emotional very quickly and

is lactose intolerant. It's funny - once I started feeding my

daughter GF, I thought it was so easy. But she's a baby and eats

anything I give her. I found out quickly that there's a huge

difference between driving through Mcs and grabbing a

cheeseburger for myself and a bag of apple slices for the baby

(easy) and driving through Mcs and grabbing TWO bags of apple

slices (hard).

My son and I made lists of all of the foods we were going to miss.

We gave ourselves a few minutes to grieve, and then we tore them

up. We then made lists of all the stuff we love that we can still

eat, and all the things we want to try (like pluots!). We made a

date for tomorrow afternoon to fully explore Whole Foods and see

what treasures we can come up with.

I have been reading the posts (and sticking my nose in occasionally)

for about three weeks now, and I have found that everyone in this

group is very kind and gives great advice. So I'm happy to meet all

of you.

Amy
