That's how my neurosurgeon explained it to me, he sounded fairly confident

of the operation and I'm now scheduled to have it done the 20th of this

month.

This is the same surgery that I had eight years ago and I think it is pretty

standard.

That is all so true. Everytime we start to feel like we can handle it, another thing pops up. It sucks, but I hope your day gets better...

-- surgery-radiation decisions

You know what's so hard about making the decision between surgery or radiation treatments? It's the knowledge that afterwards you can't blame anyone if the result isn't as good as you hoped. There is absolutely no way of knowing which is the right or wrong way, or if one treatment is just as good (or bad) as the other. When we were kids all our decisions were made for us and we could say "I hate Mrs. , she shouldn't have made me do this" or "I'm glad Mum let me come here, it is the best school around." But now we are the ones making decisions impacting on us and on everyone around us. Scary, huh?

May I quote a scripture in the Bible. Thisw is something that I look on as kinda a guide to the choises that I makr right or wrong.

6:33 Tthe last part. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will take care of it self. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

As a matter of fact the verses from 25 on down have to do with worry. The reason I send this is you need to make a decison and stick with it. As far as being the right one flip a coin odds are 50/50 but that is better than some odds. Ask two or three QUALIFIED Drs not quacks there opion they need not to sugar coat it but tell you like it is. You also need to tell them your state of being what you want how you want it to go and if they are truthful they will tell you what can be done. If it dosen't go the way they say SUE there pants off.(juts kidding I wouldn't do that) The ball is in your court. Don't worry much it will make you sick too.

BEANS

I'm hugging you and all NF's it is hard at a distance but a hug brings us closer over the net.

Debbie Fitz,

You are having the same surgery that I did. They remove the bone to make

room for your cerebellum. Would you rather they remove your cerebellum?

Sorry, there are no magic wand treatments for Chiari.

Renata,

I am sorry the surgery did not turn out the way you had hoped. You seem to

be handling it as best as possible. I wish you well and that you recover

quickly. Take time to just take care of yourself right now. The other options

will

still be there when you are feeling better both physically and mentally. And

remember, the LOL are here for you too. Get well

Hi Renata,

Im sorry to hear that you had to have a hystorectomy. I am curious as

to how big your fibroid was? What approach did your dr use when

attempting to just remove your fibroids?

I'm glad to har thst you're going to see a real doctore. PA's are good but they

can only go so far. I saw a PA first with my shoulder but after the second

injection he said he couldn't do any more for me and arranged for me to see Dr.

Hurley, my orthopedist. He and I have a good relationship as he has performed 3

other surgeries on me and 2 on my husband. He also takes care of my husband's

smashed heel. We even had him and his wife out for a fish fry and had a good

time. Make suggestions on what your problem could be other than what they

already discussed. Sometimes these doctors need a push in the right direction.

They don't always think of every thing. Good luck and let us know what happens.

Lois

Re: surgery

Lois,

After three months of pain and not being able to pick up anything or

even laying on my right side. I just couldn't take the pain anymore

and went to the ER. He thought it was carpal tunnel syndrome, but

since I don't have insurance and I dont' work. I go the local Indian

health center since I am a registered member of a tribe. They

thought it was a torn rotator cuff, then another visit..the pa

thought it might be in my head...then another visit..this time to my

diabetic dr who said it was tendonitis in my elbow and shoulder.

Then another visit with another pa..she said it was bursitis but

they dont' usually see that in patients my age(42). My son has a

social worker with the child welfare because I put him on medicaid

and we receive FS, too. She said I qualified for medicaid. I don't

see how I qualified but she made the argument since I seem not to be

able to do the mundane things around the house without help that it

would be beneficial to me to see a " real " dr. I hope to see a

orthopedist in May. I will request one. This pain is sometimes

bearable, but alot of times it isn't. I have the key board on my

knees so I am able to type. If it was in another position like on

the desk. No way I could make it without cringing.

Thanks

Carol, I'll be thinking of you this afternoon - it's nearly afternoon here

already, but you'll be running later than us ... I'll keep on crossing my

fingers until our evening, then.
