Guest guest
Yes, bending the baby's knee while you snug the heel in to the shoe helps a lot. You can put them on, buckled.....I mean if the baby is resisting the idea of putting them on, just get them on the best you can and let her settle down, then a bit later when she's calm on your lap you can adjust the straps better in a relaxed state. I press down on the top of the foot at the joint with my thumb to get that middle strap cinched up tight. s. first day for sandals-need advise > > > Dear All, > > I would like to thank everyone who sent me the information for > contacting J Mitchel. Guest guest
Heidi, I know that new things can be daunting and a bit overwhelming. Hang in there. My daughter has the mitchell sandals and she has bilateral club feet with one much more effected than the other. Her less effected foot is easy to get in the sandals and as always I flatten the tongue and put them on as tight as they can go. Then I put on the more effected foot. This one is a bit harder to get in but once I bend her knee, the heel goes right down in the sandal correctly. I then flatten the tongue and make it as tight as I can. I honestly think that the shoes won't do what they are supposed to do if they aren't on snug. If her foot just won't go down at least close to the bottom of the sandal then perhaps they are not fully corrected. Maybe you could take a picture of this foot from the side and send it to Dr. Ponseti. He may be able to tell you if you have them on correctly. Just a thought. Guest guest
It is ok. Dr Ponseti has said that it is not necessary for the heel to be fully down in the shoes in the beginning, it will come. Do not be afraid of sores. It is very rare that these sandals will cause sores. You have to get the shoe on snug enough for her foot to not move. Here is a link to a " Tips and Tricks " I put together and added to. It should help you alot http://www.mdorthopaedics.org/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=429 Good luck and let us know if you still have questions or problems.
