I wonder why some it hurts when they take out the drains and not for others. I

had absolutely no pain what so ever.

Hi Sandy,

I wholeheartedly agree with , even in the old days it hurt like

the dickens! But she's also right in that it's fleeting. Tylenol

should help. Blessings to you.

Hi nne,

I would suppose it depends on the nerves which are severed when

doing the mastectomy. I had almost full feeling in the chest after the

surgery. They told me it would be somewhat numb, but I guess I read the

wrong medical books. *smile*

I'm crossing my fingers here. My doc told me he placed the drain in a spot

that was pretty sure to be numb after surgery. And the skin IS numb. But

the muscles under the skin are clearly NOT numb. I'm hoping that since the

drain must exit through the hole in my skin (and that hole is not sensitive

now), that it is not going to hurt much. The place where it rests up

against pectoral muscle is very sensitive, however. Just hoping they will

be quick about it :).

Put me in with the ones that didn't feel any pain.however, now that I think

about it, I was on Vicodin for the pain of the surgery - morphine in the

hospital - so that could be why.
