I could let the press know I am willing to help educate the Dr about his condition, and don't expect them to know very much about it. Just be willing to learn and help me get this kid where he needs to go to get the needed help. The top two hospitals in my state have given up on him. I need to take him out of state. I need a Dr with some guts to fight my insurance. Do you think it could work? This is just my personal opinion, Cindy, but I don't think that would work. I don't think the doctor would come to you. Most of them think much too highly of themselves to do something like that. They want you begging at their doorstep. Here's another thought - and it's just that, a thought: what about a young doctor, one who is newly out of medical school? They don't usually have many patients, and most want to learn so badly, want to make a name for themselves. If they don't have to answer to a clinic, or nasty head doctor, perhaps someone like that would be best. I think they are the most willing to learn and to research new problems. Once they establish clients and patients, it's taken years, and by then, they're too busy, and think too much of themselves to admit they may not know it all! My doctor was quite young when I started with him - I'm not sure how long he'd been out of school, but he was young. He's always been willing to listen to me. Once I'd proven I wasn't a total idiot and DID know something about my own body and medicine, he was very open to my suggestions for the most part. I still have him. It's just a thought. Guest guest
" I need a Dr that will go the extra mile. Cindy C. " My dear God, hear us out! I'm so sad that I'm not the only one facing these problems with docs; I thought that was a problem of my county. I recommend that you should do whatever you feel better for your son, what ever this is, but I humbly think you should ask him too, if he wands to go public (press or tv). I remember my childhood and don't be mistaken, even in my adulthood; my mother was the one running to the doctors with me, now it is her or mostly my husband. It is a special bond that we have developed, she and I that separated us from the rest of the world whenever we had to make a crucial decision about me, you see she always asked me and respected my decisions even at my very yang age. When I was in pain after unexplained dislocation and I was still in pain 6 months later and on, and on. she and my father were the only ones wandering why and of course believing me? It took 21 years before I was diagnosed correctly, but she did it, she found the doctor to separate EDS from rheumatoid disease. I totally agree with Barb as I'm 30 years old and I still haven't stop looking for a doctor, I've traveled through the hole country and now I'll travel in another one! You should visit not one or tow but all of them, you never know, you could find a doctor who is a " human being " too, and who knows, maybe he could live near you!!! So give it a shot and at the end, you and Dylan would be the ones, to make the decisions. It is a long trip. I'm sure you already have this special bond with Dylan, and it is " magic " , I know, you just need good shoes to visit all of them and lots of energy and most of all LUCK!!! You can do it! Love Tia P.S. From my point of view it is important that the doctor should be middle age so that even if he is not educated in EDS he would be willing to do so (web, reading ect).
