Guest guest
Exert from a newsletter I receive... *** How many times have I stressed to you that the scale MUST NOT mandate your mood, dictate your success or be the only measure of your progress? Scales are from Mars; Weight loss is from Venus! I thought that I had made this point pretty clear. Evidently, not clear enough. I got this email today and have been upset ever since. Read it and then let me explain. " , I got weighed on Saturday morning as part of a gym challenge I was participating in. And I GAINED .25 POUNDS!!!!!!!! Instead of going down I am going up! Maybe I just can't lose weight, I am destined to stay fat! I have just wasted 7 weeks of working out and chugging water for what? All to be a quarter pound heavier. By the way, as a result, I have dessert and only did 15 minutes of exercise and didn't drink my water on Saturday and Sunday. However, I did go to the gym today, and drank water and had a healthy breakfast this morning. But I was so mad on Saturday that I just didn't care. I am still mad, but this body is not going to get the best of me, it is going to lose weight. Somethings gotta give. " OK, do you sense not only my frustration but also that of this woman? First off, a 1/4 of a pound up is gaining weight? It could be a full bladder, an undigested meal from the day before, water, PMS, lunar movement--but weight gain? I don't think so! Not when for the 7 prior weeks this woman's actions have been healthful! Now, let me ask you this; is 1/4 of a pound of increase measure enough to cause one to throw in the towel, stop trying and self-destruct? I don't think so and I hope you don't either. Fear not, I have spoken with this woman and she is soundly back on track. But, the bummer is that she is now " getting started " again with being dessert free, " getting started " again with her commitment to the gym and to drinking water. It is sort of like a sacred trust, this whole weight loss thing. You must trust that if your ACTIONS are consistently healthy that the scale will ultimately move downward in time--but at it's own time, NOT yours! We all want the pounds off overnight, but that just doesn't happen. We didn't gain weight noticing every 1/4 pound, but we expect to lose it by measurable means? To be able to see the pounds inching off each day? IMPOSSIBLE! I lost 130 pounds, it took 15 months, at a rate of 8 pounds a month and 2 pounds a week ON AVERAGE! I am sure there were days that it went up a 1/4 of a pound and others that it dropped 1 or 2; but thankfully, I didn't weigh in so I never knew. I just knew when I got 'there'! Are you going to get there, or weigh yourself out of trying? -- ¸...¸ __/ /\____ ____ ,·´º o`·,/__/ _/\_ //____/\ ```)¨(´´´ | | | | | | | || |l±±±± | ¸,.-·²°´ ¸,.-·~·~·-.,¸ `°²·-. :º° The 's As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord! 24:
