Guest guest
Hi Caroline! Happy New Year to you too! I had UAE in January 2003 (one year ago) and unfortunately did not have good results. I never (fortunately) had any bleeding problems - just the bulky tummy and frequent urination. As time went along, I did not feel any shrinkage and finally went for a follow up MRI in September 2003. It showed that the (largest) fibroid went from appx. 10cm. in size to about 12 cm. I now have a larger tummy-bulge. Apparently the fibroid chose to take blood supply from the ovaries (since the main artery was cut off). Also, I continue to have low-grade fevers every day, (that would have been just a typical post-op situation - " post-embolization syndrome " which last only a few weeks) - typically between 99.5 and 101. The gyno and IR have no clue what is going on and of course recommend hyst. So, now I'm worse off than when I started but I will still try anything to avoid surgery because of my fear of ANY KIND of pain. Unfortunately where I live, there are no decent, knowledgeable doctors on my medical plan. (I am 49 and do not want any more children). So - sorry I can't paint a brighter picture in my case, but do understand that my experience is more an exception than the rule. I wish you continued good health, Edie -----------------------
