Re: Vitamin supplement

I don't want to be out of line, but I think it is a little odd that a

" behavioral therapist " is offering nutritional suggestions. Just my opinion.

[ ] Vitamin supplement

We are just beginning this " alternative " process with my 3 1/3-year-

old autistic son. At 3 he had a vocabulary of 10 single syllable

words after 1 1/2 years of ST (2 hours/week at the end), DT, OT, and

Behavioral therapy. After 2 weeks on the GF/CF diet, he was speaking

in sentences. Now 4 months later, he said, " Counting " and counted to

twelve correctly and independently. His behavioral therapist had

recommended a supplement that we have been using, but I am wondering

if it is a hinderance or a help. It is LIQUID HEALTH JR. ATTENTION

formula. It does not contain gluten or casein, but it does contain

soy, which in larger quantities seems to increase aggressive

behaviors in my son. Has anyone used this supplement before?

Positives? Negatives? If anyone is interested in more information

on it, I can type the list of vitamins, etc. and their quantities.

We are on a very tight budget, so I want to supplement to his best

advantage.

Thanks for your help,

Dear ,

I would love to hear your thoughts on this. To tell you the truth, I am always

asking all of our therapists what they are seeing work in other clients and if

they're hearing anything new in the research. In turn, some of them ask me what

I am learning and sometimes put me in touch with other parents.

I also work as a child development specialist seeing infants at risk for

developmental disorders. While I am always VERY careful not to give medical

advice, I do talk to my clients about what they are seeing medically in their

children. Often, their experiences with physicians are painfully similar to

ours. Usually they don't even know not to take their babies to be vaccinated if

they are sick. Many have questions about vaccines and I try to give them all

sides of the issue (not easy - I will never vaccinate anyone in my family

again). If they ask, I share what has helped my children and other clients.

Again, I am very, very careful not to " recommend " things, but I do share what I

know about the research and about what has helped children I have seen. (Or hurt

them - I saw a boy become autistic after receiving the MMR and varicella vax on

the same day - Now they want to put the vaccines in one shot). Would you find

this inappropriate, questionable, or uncomfortable from a parents' point of

view? I appreciate your honest opinion.

THANK YOU

I know that therapists (and teachers) must be very careful in dispensing advice.

Honestly, I think putting the parent in touch with other parents that did the

same thing would be more appropriate.

Can anyone recommend a good vitamin supplement (gfcf)?  We were

using Brainchild, but I'm trying to reduce the cost.

Thanks,
