Low B12? The research seems to suggest that blood levels may be different from

actual amounts absorbed. Just a thought...

Brainstorm with me? DS is still exhausted.

It’s been about 2 months now. We’ve been gf for 6 months. He also

tested sensitive to dairy, eggs, soy and yeast, so we eliminated those months

ago as well. Blood tests show no Lyme disease, mono, thyroid problem. Ferritin

is on the low end of normal, so he may benefit from iron supplements which we

started over a week ago.

His mood seems good to me, though one

doctor wants to call this depression. He simply feels too tired to even leave

the house. His bones feel like lead, he says, though he doesn’t report

joint pain or body aches except mild achiness. His sleep cycle was very off for

a while, but he’s sleeping well now. He doesn’t have sleep apnea—I’ve

experienced that before and have sat listening to him sleep.

Any other ideas come to mind that I can

research? He’s 13, well into puberty, but that can’t explain this

level of fatigue.

Good point. B12 and folate are also fine. He'd hate iron IVs, the

needle-phobe. But maybe I can find a more absorbable oral version and hope

there's some function in the bowel.

I'd suspect the iron. Oral iron may not help if you've only been GF

for six months. It's worth a try, but keep monitoring it. I found

that getting IV iron REALLY helped me a lot. I've been GF for nearly

two years, but oral supplementation did diddly squat for my levels.

The IVs weren't exactly fun, but I'm a whole new person. :)

Have his B12 checked, along with his folate levels.

If you find an answer to this, I'd love to know!

I was diagnosed 3 years ago, in my early 40's. I have been GF ever

since, and I'm STILL experiencing debilitating fatigue. I've had

extensive testing for thyroid, anemia, heart, lungs and everything

else under the sun. No answers yet.

I've been battling fatigue at varying levels since college. Perhaps

some of that was due to the undiagnosed celiac, but now what? My

legs often feel as though I've just run a marathon, even though I've

walked 1 flight of stairs. (I'm not terribly fit, but I'm not

overweight, either.) I also feel very sore and achey everyday. If I

wasn't aware of the damage it would do to my liver, I would be

taking Ibuprofen everyday, in large doses.

I get tired of complaining to my doctor about the same old thing

(although she's generous in giving referrals to specialists), but I

think of how long the celiac was just a " vague set of symptoms " , and

I suppose I must continue to search for answers.

I would be interested in hearing from anyone else who has had

similar symptoms? And perhaps a diagnosis?!

Is it possible that in addition to celiac disease, you are

experiencing fibromyalgia? It is also considered an autoimmune

disorder. As far as the 13 year old is concerned, that is the way

my celiac fatigue manifests. That bones like lead thing, very good

way to describe it. Is he getting enough to eat and are you certain

there aren't any cross-contamination issues? I get fatigued before

I get any other symptoms when I have been " glutened " .

My herbalist put me on Slippery Elm and B6 to aid in healing my bowel, probiotics to correct the bacterial levels, I-X (a vegetable based iron supplement) for my exaustion, colloidal minerals to help rebuild my strength, and had me drink a lot of plain broth from boiled bone included chicken breast for absorabable protein. My energy began to return and I began to feel like I could eat anything at anytime (but do not dare). I only share this in hope that it will help someone else as well.

Tara

P.S. Fresh carrot juice is a good overall toner, too.

Good point. B12 and folate are also fine. He'd hate iron IVs, theneedle-phobe. But maybe I can find a more absorbable oral version and hopethere's some function in the bowel.Laurielbilyeu (AT) uuma (DOT) org-----Original Message-----From: SillyYaks [mailto:SillyYaks ] On BehalfOf eye of newtSent: Wednesday, June 28, 2006 9:21 PMTo: SillyYaks Subject: Re: Ideas on fatigue?> Brainstorm with me? It's worth a try, but keep monitoring it. I found that getting IV iron REALLY helped me a lot. I've been GF for nearly two years, but oral supplementation did diddly squat for my levels. The IVs weren't exactly fun, but I'm a whole new person. :)Have his B12 checked, along with his folate levels.ygg

P.S. Fresh carrot juice is a good overall toner, too.

A " fine " B12 level for my (former) doctor was above 250 - " fine " for

me and my ability to stand upright and function is above 500. For

reasons unknown to me, the U.S. standard of normal for B12 levels is

about 250 to 700, other countries use a standard of 500 to 1100.

There is no level of B12 sipplements considered to be toxic, so even

if your son's level is within normal range, he, like me, may just

need more than that to function.

Hi Laurie, I would seriously look into sleep apnea again. Every doctor told me I didn't have it and even my husband sat and listened to me all night long. Some apnea events are obvious and some are not. For one night - one overnight sleep study - you will know definitively. Given that his fatigue is debilitating, I would say that doing the overnight sleep study is a must. BGLaurie Bilyeu wrote: Brainstorm with me? DS is still exhausted. It’s been about 2 months now. Ferritin is on the low end of normal, so he may benefit from iron supplements which we started over a week ago. His mood seems good to me, though one doctor wants to call this depression. He simply feels too tired to even leave the house. His bones feel like lead, he says, though he doesn’t report joint pain or body

aches except mild achiness. His sleep cycle was very off for a while, but he’s sleeping well now. He doesn’t have sleep apnea—I’ve experienced that before and have sat listening to him sleep. Any other ideas come to mind that I can research? He’s 13, well into puberty, but that can’t explain this level of fatigue. Laurie lbilyeu@... Learn More Share Feedback Recent Activity ·

No kidding? We could call that “silent”

sleep apnea, eh? J OK, I’ll put sleep disorder back on the list to chat about.

I had a sleep study myself years ago (trying to diagnose…) and think it

will be a challenge to get him through one, but he’s a challenge now too…..
