Guest guest
Anyone out there have any information regarding breastfeeding and hypothyroidism? I'm specifically curious about milk supply. With my last 2 (youngest still nursing) I have had a horrible time trying to keep up milk, even with frequent nursing (as frequent as every hour), pumping milk in between and after feedings, and using herbal galactagogues (fenugreek, fennel, licorice, brewer's yeast, etc). Also both children had a degree of food sensitivities (the oldest has severe food/airborne allergies) so I was usually on elimination of milk, egg, soy, nuts, wheat, and peanuts. I had a full hormonal panel a couple of months ago (had to get my midwife to order it, endo just told me unhelpful things like " Most women LOSE weight while they're breastfeeding. " ) My prolactin levels were really, really low, even for non-lactating women. I have only been able to find a few articles at Shomon's site that don't go into the gory hormonal details (which I'd LOVE to hear). I've also found some information (like reference ranges) about pituitary hormones at various universities, but nothing specifically addressing the hormonal issues of breastfeeding with endocrine imbalances. Curious (but wearing bigger clothes today),
