Guest guest
Hi all, If you ever have the chance to have Mike work on you, please take him up on the offer. He is a sweet man with all honorable intentions. You could get better, and he will learn. Every EDS body he works on, takes him one step closer to understanding how this energy work can benefit all of us. We had 4 days of intensive work and learning. If we weren't in the massage room working, we were at the kitchen table surrounded with books. I'll have to find out from Darlene and Barb if he always carries that invisible whip <G> <Snap, get back to work> I was brain fried the second evening. I picked up feeling the energy the first morning, so all the work and learning when quicker than expected. Instead of having to practice on Mike, I was able to start right in on Dylan. We worked in tandem on him, 4 to 6 hours a day, usually. Then he would work on me and I would work on him. I feel confident to do this on my own now. We had a session the last day with a Reiki Master joining us for an hour. So how is Dylan? Well it's going to take a few days to know for sure. There were a lot of setbacks and variables in play. I took him off 2 of his 3 meds while he was here, and lowered his Methadone. The first time on the table, he couldn't lay there more than 15 minutes. With some issues addressed, mostly in his back, he laid the for three hours the same day. The first day of body work, made him feel so worn out, he slept till 5 PM the next day. He slipped in his room one night, and that is worse for him than an all out fall. Through all this Dylan hurt no worse than usual, so I'd have to say that is an improvement. I will know better by this weekend when he levels out from the setbacks. His normal knee pain is an 8. I except by this weekend that will be down quit a bit. We hope to see Mike again around June. He taught me well and I kicked his socks off a few times too! <G> Energy work is a cool thing. You never know what to expect, except all good things. So I'll check in this week end and let you all know what the results are from the work. I'll be working on his knees everyday in the mean time. Cindy C. Guest guest
Hi Cindy, I know what you mean about Mike...I've had the opportunity of meeting him, and he's GREAT, in my opinion, and I love his personality and sense of humor! Good luck with Dylan! Will be praying for you both! Love Lana " 'Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.' In fact, she used to do it years ago but had gotten " blocked. " My first goal on getting there was to " open up " her energy channels so she could feel it again. I thought it might take a couple of days. It took a couple of hours. By being able to work in tandem, one on each side of the body, we were able to effectively accomplish twice as much on Dylan in the same amount of time as we would have been able to do otherwise. And yes, she most definitely " kicked my socks off " a couple of times. I am not at all sure whose energy channels got the most opening in the five days - hers or mine. You all know that everyone " holds tension " in some place in their body. It might be the shoulders, or low back, or neck, or ? The point is, every body does it and where varies from person to person. These holding patterns over time can lead to chronic problems, such as fascial restrictions, trigger points and postural distortions. But as you get deeper into bodywork, you come to realize and understand that it involves much more than just " holding tension. " You have also all heard the expression " muscle memory. " Most people think this just means that muscles " remember " repetitive actions so you can perform them quickly by reflex without thinking about it. But they also " remember " trauma and hold repressed emotions. This is one of the main reasons why people sometimes experience " emotional releases " while receiving bodywork. This is also sometimes referred to as a healing crisis, somato-emotional release, or unwinding. A common thread in many bodywork modalities is that you have to treat " the whole body/person " to successfully address long-term, chronic issues. The body has to " release " the repressed/stored emotion/memory/energy for the physical problem to heal. I personally have been battling a chronic problem with my right shoulder for several years. The pain level varies, but it is always with me. It isn't debilitating, but it also isn't pleasant. I have had it " worked on " more times than I can count. I have also gone through at least five " healing crises " in the last two years while being worked on in various classes. Each one of them took it " to the edge " but couldn't break through. By " to the edge " I mean things like my body going rigid, jackknifing, silent screams, and laying there bawling. On Monday afternoon, Cindy took it to the next step and broke through. It took me back 40 years in time and ripped me apart emotionally. A lot of very painful memories came to the surface, but it also released the pain and tension in my right shoulder for the first time in years. And I am not the least bit ashamed to admit that I laid there on her table and cried my eyes out. There are still some muscle issues involved with it that I have to work on, but for the first time there is a chance that it is finally going to heal. And then on Tuesday, she literally kicked my socks off. She felt I wasn't " balanced " from Monday because she hadn't gotten to my left shoulder. As soon as she put her hands on my left shoulder, it felt like a dam let loose. I felt every energy channel in my body open up, one by one in sequence – meridians, chakras, motor spirals, etc, etc, etc. It's one thing to know they are there and to work with them with your hands on another person. It is something else entirely when you feel it running all through your own body like an interconnected system, especially when you are having a " light show " going off in your head at the same time. For those of you who know what I am talking about, yes, there was also an episode of pure white light involved. I have spent a good part of the last two days trying to decide how much, if any, of what I experienced myself I was going to tell the list. I finally decided that if you haven't all just " tuned me out " by now with my various discussions of energy, meridians, polarity, etc, then relating some of this probably won't totally destroy my credibility. But there are a fair number of you who have never had bodywork done and may do so in the future based on what you read on the list. You need to be aware of emotional releases, what they are and what they mean, because they can be triggered by any form of bodywork (including standard Swedish) if conditions are right. They are not to be feared because they are part of the body's healing mechanisms. They can, however, be scary if you are not familiar with them.
