IN A PICKLE

Well folks here's the latest. Neurontin stuff is about the same. Now my gen doc. wants to start decreasing my breakthrou med of oxlicodone. He gave me 45 pills to last until the 1st of december. then wants me off them. I know I can't do it. I just don't know why he is doing all of this. I will play the game but know that it's not going to be so great these next couple of weeks. Then I will make appt and see him and tell him just what it was like. Hope he changes his mind. What do you guys think?

Other things I have some pants to shorten for $$ Whoopi. waiting for my worker to come so I can take a bath. Want to sleep today. woke up last nite hurting so bad so I didn't get much restfull sleep. Other physical things are happening to. I'm bleeding pretty good from my trach and the docs are trying to figure out where thats coming from. They think my lungs. So I go in for cat scan tomorrow. I think it's just the dry weather. I feel pretty miseralble all the way around today. I'm a royal bitch. It can only go up from here.

Do you have a pain mgmt doctor or just your GP?

It doesn't sound like he has a plan to replace the breakthrough meds.. why in the world would he think you no longer need them?

Let us know what the CT scan says.. Bleeding from anywhere is NOT good.

Hi Laurie!

Wow...your doc is sounding sadistic. I'm sorry that he's so scared

of jeopardizing his license that he's taking you off medication

that's giving you some relief. I hope that changes for you. As far

as your cat scan is concerned, just make sure that you sedate the

cat before the scan and have a nice treat ready for him when you

bring him home. My cat freaks when I look at him for more than three-

tenths of a second...I can't imagine what it would do to his psyche

if he had an entire scan...I shudder to think!

Laurie - While 45 pills, if it had only been used for breakthrough pain, seem like an adequate amount, but I'm concerned about what kind of support you will be getting during the next three three weeks while you go off the med? Do you have an appt. with him scheduled for in-between or phone contact? You might want to sit down and work out a schedule of how you will taper the meds...In fact, it might have been helpful if he had done that with you in his office.

Many questions here....What part of going off the med are you most concerned about? ....The worry about having too much pain or the worry that you've grown tolerant of the med and are concerned about withdrawal symptoms. What other meds are you on that are helpful to you and how much of the oxycodone were you taking? What dosage are the pills that he gave you to take as you wean off the past dosage? It might be helpful if you arranged to talk with about your concerns and set up a more detailed plan...beats the heck out of "Here are 45 pills....Use them to get you off of the meds and tell me later what it feels like."
