I have received an email from Lujene . She mentions that the IOM

events described in Steve Edelson's message from Bernie Rimland may not

have been quite as described in the email (which is here surrounded now

in question marks:

Hi all. I was there and this was my take. Yes, Bernier/CDC was booed a bit as

well as the IOM/Kathleen Stratton..BUT it was disgust at the end of each of

their presentations....BS denial and not having enough time to allow

questions/comments..although some parents did voice good data, some gave

emotional, personal stories, and some were just so pissed off that they came off

" emotional " ...security was called to help direct them and parents to find

another room to continue..and the big, burly security (hotel) guys stood right

behind Bernier, Stratton as they sat at a table surrounded by parents..who

wanted answers, myself included..and it was fact based on our part...Mark

Blaxill did a great job as well as Beth Clay...but the argument or

" polarization " as IOM/CDC call it is " the autism community looks strong and

cohesive but you need an advocate to help " ...our comeback was " wait, you guys are

paid to be our advocates...why must we advocate and come up with THE PLAN? " The

IOM report

had many faults, and these were brought up numerous times..and Bernier and

Stratton looked very uncomfortable because they don't have an

answer.....especially when asked if you are not looking at mercury/MMR as the

increase in autism, what are you going to look at?...A good point was brought up

in that the autism epidemic should be a health priority/emergency but Bernier

said it was different, as Marrk pushed him on West Nile ...and that's how it

ended..as far as CBS, I too thought it was for the news but someone told me they

were filming the day for Autism One, not the news...either way it was surreal to

be there and see THEM in action...and I kept telling everyone that they remind

me of used car salesmen... " You don't want THAT car...I have a much better one

over here and these are the reasons......thus came the " song and dance " . BUT, I

did walk away feeling and thinking that they know we parents are not going

away......

Several speakers representing the Center for Disease

Control (CDC) were booed off the stage this morning at

the Autism One Conference in Chicago. The parents

were protesting the highly biased IOM report, funded

and directed by the CDC, which insists that vaccines

are perfectly safe. Security police escorted the CDC

representatives out of the hall.

CBS News was present and taped the events. Contact

your local CBS television affiliates and ask them to

broadcast this newsworthy event. Related news may

appear as early as Friday night.

Bernard Rimland, Ph.D.

Director, Autism Research Institute
