Guest guest
re: MS Caro When I was preparing to see the geneticist I was told that MS and EDs are in the same genetic family. In my family on my mother's side I have 2 cousins with MS and they are all in the same family line. We are not sure but we think my EDS is either from some recessive gene on my mom's side or recissive recessive with both my parents. No one is really sure. ~~~~~~~~~` I've been reading this discussion with interest. I have never heard of an EDS/MS connection before. MS is a demylenating disease. Myelin is a " sheath " that covers the nerves in the brain and else where in the spinal cord. MS (multiple sclerosis) attacks the myelin sheath and causes the myelin to harden on the nerves, thus preventing the nerve impules to conduct along the myelin sheath. MS is prevalent in temperate zones and is thought to be caused by a virus that attacks the body. The neurologist that taught a class during my speech pathology training said that if people can get out of a temperate zone before their kids reach puberty, the MS is less likely to attack the system. BTW, temperate zones are areas of the world that have all 4 seasons is how the neuro explained it to me. EDS is a genetic disorder that is caused by faulty chromosomes.... I don't see how the two are considered related. If someone has a research article or two on this I'd be interested in reading it.... Guest guest
Bonnie I do not have any research papers on it I was just told when I was filling out the very long family history forms and collecting family history for the geneticist that it was in the same genetic family and to point out if I had it in my family. So I really know nothing beyond that.
