Guest guest
Hi Everyone, Im 30wks pregnant and baby has Talipes of its right foot. Ive done some research and lucky enough to find a UK Ponsetti doctor nearby (trained with Dr Ponsetti). He has been highly recommended by other parents. However Im based in UK but hubby works away in Czech Republic so I spend my time between both countries. What I would like to know is, are there any restrictions on flying with the baby in casts? Do I have to wait 24-48 hours before flying? Do I have to notify the airline. Its a short 2hour flight. Any info appreciated, Julzd
Guest guest
Hi Julz, Well done on researching so early in the process and finding your Ponseti doctor! 's clubfeet weren't diagnosed pre-birth, so we were very unprepared about treatment, his first treatment was not done by a Ponseti doctor, and we were headed for surgery until we found Dr Ponseti. When we were finished in Iowa, we flew the next day after casts to New York. We were told by Dr Ponseti that we could fly the same day, but because was always a little restless for a few hours after casting and sometimes the tenotomy cast can have a lot of bleeding, etc., we decided to play it safe and leave the next morning instead. He was absolutely fine and comfortable on the flight. When they're still so little, it's a lot easier to move them around in casts. Three days after we got to New York, we did the long haul back to South Africa - 18 hours in the plane - and he was perfectly comfy in his casts. It was more like us and the other passengers had to look out for getting thumped by them as he wiggled his legs around! and www.clubfoot.co.za Flying with baby in Casts! Guest guest
Hi Julzd, Congratulations on your baby to come! I flew with my baby when he was one 1/2 month old from USA to Germany. There was no problem. The last time I flew with him (two weeks ago just to Michigan)they checked his cast for explosives. They just wipe it. I know some Airlines restrict their babies age to (I think) at least 7 days old. You can check that out by either calling the airline or going to their website. Hope this helped a little.
