Guest guest
I had a L. BHR 3 weeks ago in Canberra. I have had arthritis in both hips(worst in L)(aggravated by a long nursing career) and presented to an orthopaedic surgeon for a probable total hip about 5 years ago. But something held me back, thinking of all the recent technology. Last year my husband heard about resurfacing as an alternative. So we got on the internet to research and the hunt for a surgeon to do this. From colleagues in Melbourne we got a name.I had the surgery in Canberra on Jan 5th. The first 3 days I did not enjoy, but seem to turn the corner after that. Able to walk 1.2 KMs (with crutches still), using minimal analgesia but am getting sick of sleeping on my back, and sore heels (which I have fixed with big car-wash sponges).I have no more arthritic pain, just minimal wound soreness, and do my post-op exercises religiously. Whether I will go back to nursing is anybody's guess, but never say never!
Guest guest
Hi Well done. You sound to be doing great. When I had my RHS done I had a nurse with two THR's (one of which had been revised)...so if you want to go back, especially with a resurface, you will probably be able to. Take care. ine C2K 04/03 > I had a L. Dasher, how was the trip back to Wang after your surgery? Like you I went afar from home to have the surgery (Merimbula to Canberra) and also had a car trip home, and with a couple of stops managed quite well. I'm managing on one crutch around the house, but take two when out. All the best to you, Marg.

Guest guest
For Aussies in Queensland, There are several surgeons in Brisbane who do BRH, mostly in the private system but also in the public system at the Mater Hospital. Check the MidMedTec website for contact details for the surgeons. Virginia (left Birmingham metal-on-metal on THR stem, for fracture) > > Hi, > > > > A couple of us Aussies float around around this site. Edith in QLD > > and hippies in Sydney. Guest guest
Hi Marg, The trip was very interesting. As an ambulance subscriber and due to the unavailability of my partner to take me home I organised to go home via an ambulance. I was told this would be an Air ambulance so was quite excited at the prospect of being home fairly quickly. Ambo turned up to take me and I asked are we going to Tullamarine or Essendon airports and was told " Wangaratta " . I was amazed at how uncomfortable the back of a road ambulance was. I was drugged up so did not feel much discomfort but felt all of the bumps. There does not appear to be much suspension in our ambulances so I would hate to really be in a lot of pain going over the bumps. 3 and a half hours I was home. Guest guest
Admittedly my trip home by ambulance on Day 6 was only 15-20 minutes, but I refused the stretcher and climbed up the fold-down step and sat up the front in a seat facing towards the back. It's the seat one of the ambos usually sits in when there is anyone on a stretcher in the back. Didn't feel any bumps. There wasn't much leg room, though, and so a longer trip would have been uncomfortable. Better than the stretcher, though, which I knew from experience would have meant the usual scary jump down, with the ambos holding me. No way!
