Guest guest
Hi, Laurie- Sorry you've got a Houdini on your hands! I know one thing that has worked in the past for some parents is to lace the shoes upside down so that the knots are at the toe end of the shoe. It takes longer for the parent to put the shoes on, but then if the child unties them, it would be more difficult to actually get the shoe off. You can try a lace lock/ lace keeper too, but it seems that they're difficult to find, and most kids that can pick the double knot apart can get the lace lock off too. This tip probably won't help Vinny but maybe others- you can get socks with triple cuff length and fold them down to cover the laces. Did he get new larger shoes recently so he has more room to wiggle? Sometimes the socks with the rubber grippers on the bottom help to hold the foot in place more firmly. Do his shoes have the plastizode insert in the heel? This should help prevent the escape from the shoes when they're tied up. Hope something here is of some help. Guest guest
, Now that you mentioned it, I have heard of lacing upside-down. I think that will have to be done as soon as we get home tonight. We've tried the fold over sock thing... that doesn't last long. Vinny did get his new size shoes about a month ago. the first couple of weeks were fine, but since he learned how to stand you can actually see him thinking 'Forget these things! I can fly without them!' He is such a little devil. The double knots are nothing for him to undo. I'll fight with the knots because they are so small and tight, but his little fingers just unravels them like a loose ball of yarn! I've looked for the lace locks... They used to be very popular, but are very scarce now. Well, time to fly home! Thanks again, Laurie - Vinnys Mommy > Hi, Laurie- > Sorry you've got a Houdini on your hands! Guest guest
Laurie, Lacing upside down worked for us also. was also very good at getting the double knowts undone. Do several knots just don't stop at 2. By the way, I was the one who considered the duct tape:) I ended up not having to resort to that. Good Luck! Guest guest
I don't know if this helps, but if you are looking for the lock-knot things, I just saw them in our local Stride Rite store.
