Guest guest
Hello Everyone, I would like to contibute something to this wonderful group of human beings rather than suck you all dry of information. What I have to say I'm sure is nothing new but I haven't seen it brought up recently. Of course, I could have missed something and if so, I apologize. My wonderful wife asked me to come to her hot yoga class this last week and I gave it a try not thinking that it would do a great deal for my stiff hip. I am scheduled for C+ March 8th and can't tie my shoes, etc. The usual. Well, I'm here to say as a physician that Yoga should be a mandatory part of pre and post op physical therapy! I have attended three classes in the last five days and went from not being able to touch my ankles to being able to grab my toes with fully extended legs with my head nearly touching my knees! We all think that our lack of range of motion is solely because of our bad hip but alot of it is because we are not stretching AT ALL and our surrounding hip muscles, tendons, etc. get tight as a drum and need some form of release. This is THE best thing that I have done for my hip since giving in to my limitations like a sissy and darn near accepting defeat. It should be covered by insurance and a ROUTINE part of pre and postop care in all of us that have resurfacings as dislocation just ain't gonna happen. With the right instructor (of which there are many) and with a couple of sessions in which you learn more proper technique it is also a GREAT aerobic workout. I am amazed at the flexiblity and DECREASE in pain that my left hip is experiencing. I will still get my hip done but I will never give this up. This coming from someone who is a workout freak and totally neglected this aspect for way to long. I feel like Dean after his Iowa defeat. Not presidential but full of spit and vinegar!
