Guest guest
My favorite substitutes are: 1) I Can't believe Its Not Butter Spray- for popcorn-- 70 sprays = 1 point 2) Smuckers Sugar free jam. I love the Apricot flavor on toast 3) Kraft FF Shredded Cheddar cheese-- better than the slices 4) Laughing Cow Cheese 35 calories per cube- this stuff is so good I eat the whole thing in a day so you have to watch out! 5) 2% milk, I can't live on anything lower than that 6) Low fat bread---2 slices = only 1 point. I get it at the discount breadstore factory for like 75 cents a bag. Plus low fat raisin bread mmm mmm good. 7) FF coolwhip 8) sugar free jello 9) sugar free pudding 10) pretzels instead of chips 11) I don't cook with butter or oil. A little bit of water will go a long way or broth or for marinades with fish, I use FF salad dressing I could go on and on. this is just a start... Guest guest
Some things I use to substitute: 1. Skim milk 2. whole wheat flour instead of white flour( lots more fiber) 3. whole wheat pasta instead of white pasta( again more fiber) 4. Brown rice instead of white (more fiber) 5. Turkey instead of beef in most cases ( less fat) 6. Tofu in stir fry or in soups instead of meat ( lots less fat) 7. Polaner All Fruit instead of Jelly (tastes better to me) 8. Natures Own Whole Wheat bread 1 point for 2 slices 9. Mission tortillas low carb whole wheat- 1 point per 2 tortillas 10. Lite Hershey's choclate syrup (50% less sugar but tastes just as good to me) 11. Smart Balance margarine ( no hydrogenated oils like other margarine 12. Smart Balance butter flavored spray ( no hydrogenated oils) 13. Butter Buds butter flavored sprinkles ( fat free and great for a buttery flavor in oatmeal, mashed potatoes, and on popcorn) 14. Melba Snacks toast( these are great with soup) 15. Center cut bacon ( 40% less fat thatn Turkey bacon) 16. egg beaters (they taste better than eggs to me) Cooking Tips: 1. In any recipe that calls for sugar you can cut the amount in half and the recipe won't taste any different, I have tried it with a lot of things. 2. replace oil with applesauce or mashed banana, or pureed prunes 3. replace oil and eggs with pumpkin 4. for a steusel topping for muffins or coffee cake, instead of using sugar just mix together wheat germ and cinnamon, or cut these two things with some margarine to make it crumbly. 5. use skim milk or water in a recipe that calls for milk. 6. recipes that call for butter use half the amount and use margarine instead. 7. to make a cake or muffins lighter and creamier, add 2 tablespoons of fat free plain yogurt or fat free sour cream to the batter or try adding 2 tablespoons of soft tofu 262/244.5/
