You can try using moleskin to add padding to make them fit better. In the mean

time, to measure the foot use a tape measurer and try measuring in cm since they

are more accurate for small lengths. Measure heel to toe, making sure to

account for the curve of the heel, and measure from side to side at both the

heel and the widest part of the foot (should be just before the toes).

Shoes Too Big

Hi All,

I was wondering if I could get some advice. My Dr. has contacted regarding

his sandals as Dr. Ponseti has classified our daughter as severe, atypical.

However we haven't heard from him regarding how to measure her feet so he can

make shoes and she is done with the casting process. So our Dr. tried to put

her in reverse last shoes in the interim but they were just tooooo big. Even

the 0000 size. Has anyone dealt with this and if so, what did you do?

Angel,

Thanks for the suggestion but when I say the shoes are toooo big, I mean WAY too

big. Her feet are so tiny that even padding with moleskin won't do the trick

and the correction would not be held in her feet. I'm still trying to get a

hold of and see where we are in the process but I'm very frustrated.

Dr. Brown of New Mexico has successfully implemented using

regular baby shoes on the bar for infants whose feet were too small

for the Markell shoes. There are some photos in the files section in

the folder " DDB with tennis shoes " . There's also a photo of one of

his patients wearing the brace with glued shoes at my ponseti kids

site at http://ponsetikids.freeservers.com/

Hope this helps-

I do understand your frustration! Kai just got out of a two week " maintenance "

cast because he could not go back into the Markell shoes, and had to make

new molds and everything for the bigger size (about equivilent to a Markell 3).

In fact, had we had 's shoes earlier, the cast before this one probably

would not have been needed either. You have my deepest sympathies, and I hope

the shoes come soon!

Sorry, I don't have any advice for you. Devlin just got new shoes

today because hers were too big and her heel was slipping up in them,

but she fit into the 000 size. Too big is a pain in the butt because

you end up over-tightening them and causing discomfort w/out the

desired effect. Hopefully you can find a solution...

I was wondering if you had any pictures of your daughter's feet. Dr.

Ponseti answered my email and said that he thought Devlin had

atypical based on my description of her feet. I was wondering if

your daughter's looked the same. Pictures of Devlin's feet are at

www.personal.psu.edu/rlg187/clubfoot/ . Do they look like your

daughter's?

Thanks!
