Is folic acid and folinic acid the same thing? Kirkmans has 400 mcg

chewable tablet. My son is 37 pounds and 4 years old. Do I give a full

tablet once a day? Dana, your help is always appreciated. Thank you.

Folinic is supposedly more absorbable.

I use ORAL B12 and ORAL folic acid. When I give 125 mcg B12, I have

to give it with 800 mcg folic acid. When I give 250 mcg B12, I have

to give it with 1600 mcg folic acid. My kids are older and larger

than yours.

You can probably start with one tablet and see if that helps.

I know that sometimes it is advisable to give DMG with folinic acid, but why do

you need to give folinic acid with B12?

I don't know *why*, but I do know that many kids have lots of problems

with B12 unless it is given with folic/folinic acid. For my #3,

giving too much B12 causes crying and head banging, over-emotional

behavior, and drinking excessive amounts of water, presumably trying

to flush it out. Giving it with folic acid, I was able to give a

slightly higher dose without those problems.
