Hello - this one really fired me up! The good news is ... people are beginning

to question. I fumed over the article for hours though...

(please do not post this message elsewhere unless you ask me - thanks!)

Dear Child Magazine:

As a parent of two children who have suffered severe reactions to vaccines, one

to the MMR and one to the DPT, I am completely offended and outraged by your

article, " Why Parents Aren't Vaccinating Their Children. "

If Hallie Levine had actually done some research, she would have found

Thimerosal, a mercury preservative, has not been " removed from vaccines in 1999

by government officials. " The truth is that it was " recommended " thimerosal be

removed from vaccines but it has not. I know for a fact it is still in there

because following my son's severe reaction to his DPT shot and subsequent

mercury toxicity in 2001, I insisted the doctor read me the package insert. Much

to his and my surprise, it still contained thimerosal. I trusted my doctor (like

Dr. Horwitz, as Ms. Levine states) and my son was permanently damaged as a

result. More recently, in February of 2004, a friend of mine trusted her doctor

as well and after a reaction, she and her doctor read the package insert

together and discovered not one but two shots still contained thimerosal. She

trusted him as well when he insisted his office supply no longer contained the

mercury based preservative. He then said she misunderstood him and promised to

special order mercury-free vaccines " just for her baby. "

Many doctors contribute to the problem by blindly vaccinating every child who

comes to their office. The package inserts for all of the vaccines state

individuals who are truly contraindicated to receiving that vaccine. We trusted

our doctor who knew our daughter was allergic to eggs when she said the MMR

vaccine was safe for her to receive while the vaccine manufacturer says it is

not. It appears Dr. Brosco feels the same way ... that every child should be

vaccinated to protect the herd, despite contraindications pointed out by the

vaccine manufacturers themselves, since he stated, " when parents don't vaccinate

their children, they put all children at increased risk... " and " it is immoral

not to vaccinate a child. " To blindly vaccinate every child, despite individual

contraindications, is not only immoral, it's negligence, and it violates the

Hippocratic Oath every doctor takes.

If Ms. Levine even went so far as to read a package insert for one of the

vaccines, she could see the package insert itself sometimes states the risk of

having a severe reaction from the vaccine is actually higher than the risk of

contracting the disease! Ms. Levine talks about " the latest research that proves

how safe vaccines are. " Where is the proof? Does she know the HepB vaccine - now

mandatory at birth was NEVER tested on babies?! And the Danish study revealed in

its own study the " unvaccinated " comparison group did actually receive prior

vaccinations. Ms. Levine must have missed the recent study by Northeastern

University pharmacy professor Deth and colleagues from the University of

Nebraska, Tufts, and s Hopkins University, published in the April 2004 issue

of the journal Molecular Psychiatry which showed a link between exposure to

certain neurodevelopmental toxins (including thimerosal and aluminum) and an

increased possibility of developing neurological disorders including autism and

attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder.

Ms. Levine must have also missed the research from the CDC's own Vaccine Safety

Datalink, unveiled at the Institute of Medicine meeting in Washington DC in

February 2004, which concluded children are 27 times more likely to develop

autism after exposure to three thimerosal-containing vaccines, than those who

receive thimerosal-free versions. The CDC's own secret research study, disclosed

to the public under subpoena in 2000 shows a positive link between thimerosal

containing vaccines and autism, speech delays, ADHD, and other developmental

delays. I would be happy to provide Ms. Levine and " Child " magazine with a copy

of these studies.

I fail to see the logic in the statement by Brosco, MD in that

" vaccinated children are more at risk thanks to unvaccinated kids. " The " proof "

is that 11% of vaccinated children were infected with measles due to contact

with an unvaccinated child. Doesn't that simply prove the vaccine didn't work

for that eleven percent?

Calling parents who do not vaccinate their children immoral is completely

insulting. How is this for immoral - Breiman, MD and Director of the

National Vaccine Program Office in 1999, stated, " Human cell-line cultures are

used during production of some vaccines such as varicella, rabies, inactivated

polio virus, and hepatitis A. Some of these cell lines originated from fetal

tissue obtained from legal abortions... " The doctors we so blindly trust fail to

disclose this to the parents who inquire about vaccines. I'm sure many pro-life

parents would find this information more than a bit disturbing, to know this is

being injected into their children.

If vaccines are " one of the safest things in the world " why is there a Vaccine

Injury Compensation program which pays out millions of dollars each year to

parents whose babies were either severely injured or killed by a vaccine? And if

" the amount of surveillance around the world dedicated to detecting side effects

[is} enormous " , then why are the majority of adverse reactions not reported? Why

is it the package insert for the DTaP shot or the influenza shot state ear

infections, asthma, and gastro-esophageal reflux as side effects but when babies

develop chronic ear infections, asthma, or reflux, the vaccine is never the

cause? Why are parents who report their baby became autistic or brain damaged or

died of SIDS right after a vaccine dismissed as just bitter or looking for

something to blame? Why are people like Barbara Loe Fisher who report the " other

side " of vaccines considered " a pediatrician's worst nightmare " if parents have

nothing to fear? If the CDC or Child magazine, or Ms. Levine, or anyone else had

a real interest in finding out why parents are not vaccinating, they should ask

the parents.

Ms. Levine speaks of the " dangers " of the measles - both my daughter and I

developed the measles - documented by physicians - from the MMR vaccine itself.

My brother is completely deaf in one ear after developing the measles from his

vaccine. My son, previously a very healthy, happy baby, developed non-lockjaw

tetanus, severe reflux, severe food allergies, and eventually autistic symptoms

after his first DPT shot at 9 weeks old. Ms. Levine obviously has not read the

Vaccine Injury Database which is believed to be grossly under-reported. She also

obviously did not speak with a single parent of a child injured or killed by a

vaccine. Wouldn't a fair piece of journalism try to report both sides of the

story?

Dr. Katz states " although the number of unvaccinated children is only between 1%

and 2%, that still translates to 40,000 - 80,000 children a year... " and

400,000 within 5 years. This is the same number of children who will develop

autism in a year. But this number is growing by the minute. As more and more

families and as a result, more and more medical doctors' families are touched by

autism and other developmental disorders, the tide is slowly changing. The

pharmaceutical companies can continue to find pawns such as Ms. Levine who are

willing to put their names behind the propaganda put forth to scare parents who

question vaccinating and shame those who don't. But in time, the truth will be

known and yes, the internet will bring together the hundreds of thousands of

parents whose children have suffered as a result of a vaccine.

The decision to not continue vaccinating my children was not taken lightly. It

was a serious decision made after extensive research. It was one I made with

great fear and enormous worry. However, after continuing to research the issue

for over 2 years now, I have no doubt I made the best decision for my family.

Child magazine has done a huge disservice to the thousands of families like mine

and the thousands of families who may not have reason to be concerned but have

every right to know the real facts upon which to base their decisions.

I've already called to cancel my subscription.
