Hi all,

Well we are off to our second appointment with Dr. Herzenberg today

for . She has done really well this week (after the first day)

being back in a cast. I am hoping to see a difference when they take

off her cast today!

I finally heard back from Dr. Ponseti re my email to him for an

opinion on 's foot --

*****************************************

Dear Mrs. Tozier;

I see that 's left foot is a good deal shorter than the right

foot and has a deep crease across the sole of the foot. It is a short,

chubby foot with some edema on the dorsum. The foot is still in some

equinus. This is what we call an atypical clubfoot. These atypical

feet are stiffer and more difficult to treat than the usual clubfoot.

These feet require treatment by someone with a great deal of

experience in treating clubfeet. Dr. Herzenberg at the Sinai

Hospital in Baltimore is one of the leaders in the field of

nonsurgical treatment of clubfoot and I would strongly recommend that

you get his opinion. His phone number is 410 601-8700. His e-mail is

FRCSC@...

Even with the best of treatment, the foot will be shorter than the

normal right foot, but will walk and be fully functional.

I.V. Ponseti, M.D.

Not exactly what I wanted to hear but it's necessary to know. At

least he pointed me to Dr. H :) Now I know I made a good choice!

For those of you who have been questioning your child's treatment, I

greatly recommend you go for a second opinion! Thanks to the advice

of some very informed parents on this board, I finally sought out a

second opinion and now it looks like that was the best thing I have

done for 's care so far!

Well now I have my list of questions for Dr. H today....

Marilouise and 9/9/03, cast #1 of second series
